Senior Sourcing Engineer

POSITION OBJECTIVE

To serve as a vital link between engineering, sourcing, and suppliers by enabling cost-effective sourcing strategies, supporting new product development, and leading value engineering and continuous improvement initiatives that optimize total cost and supplier performance.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Collaborate with R&D and Product Engineering teams during design phases to ensure sourcing alignment and early supplier involvement.
  • Lead supplier selection for new components and technologies aligned with technical requirements, cost targets, and supply chain strategy.
  • Conduct risk assessments on new suppliers or components related to cost, lead time, capacity, and quality.
  • Support design-to-cost initiatives and provide cost analysis during design reviews.
  • Develop detailed should-cost models using cost drivers such as material, labor, overhead, tooling, and logistics.
  • Benchmark costs against industry data to identify cost gaps and improvement opportunities.
  • Partner with Category Managers to integrate cost models into strategic sourcing decisions.
  • Initiate and lead VA/VE workshops with suppliers and internal stakeholders to identify cost reduction opportunities without compromising quality or performance.
  • Evaluate alternative materials, manufacturing methods, and design changes to enhance product value.
  • Drive productivity and cost savings initiatives at supplier sites, including waste elimination, automation, and process optimization.
  • Support supplier capability assessments and onboarding for new technologies or capacities.
  • Serve as a technical sourcing lead on cross-functional teams.
  • Support long-term make-versus-buy and global sourcing strategies.
  • Contribute to business case development for sourcing decisions or capital investments.
  • Track and report project status, savings, and KPIs to management.
  • Ensure compliance with sourcing policies, corporate governance, and ethical sourcing standards.



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS



  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, or related); Master's or MBA a plus.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in sourcing, product engineering, or manufacturing engineering roles.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes.
  • Proven track record in cost modeling, supplier development, and cross-functional project leadership.
  • Proficient in Excel, ERP systems (preferably Infor M3), data analytics platforms such as Power BI, and should-cost modeling tools.
  • Strong negotiation, communication, and problem-solving skills.



ADDITIONAL INFORMATION



  • Up to 35% of travel may be required to visit key domestic and international suppliers.
  • Must possess exceptional integrity to handle supplier relationships objectively and to maintain confidentiality of shared information while dealing with competitive suppliers.
