Responsibilities

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Food Service Manager (ft; days with weekend rotation) serves as the primary representative in the daily operation within a single assigned hospital. As a Food Service Manager, you would perform tasks which fall into eight (8) broad categories: safe food handling, volume food production, menu development and modification, meal assembly and portion control, inventory management, financial performance, infection control/sanitation and overall department function. Within these categories, you would perform a variety of tasks which enable departmental staff to accomplish the mission of the department, and the Health System. You would participate in the planning, coordination, preparation and volume production of meals for patients, cafeteria, catering/special events. You would provide direction and guidance for an overall hospital food service program, ensuring conformance to food quality standards, establishing the highest caliber standards of care, supervising the staff, development of personnel in the food services area, monitoring compliance of policies and procedures to ensure compliance to regulatory agencies, and maintaining effective communications with departmental managers and interdepartmental liaisons. The Manager must achieve financial (productivity targets. In the area of Catering/Special functions, the Manager must meet the customer's catering needs and achieve customer satisfaction while maintaining financial targets. The Manager will work together with the employees of the department to provide optimal food and nutritional services to patients, visitors, and staff to ensure the healing and well-being of each individual. This Manager performs many operational tasks, and participates in the day-to-day leadership of a multi-unit food service operation.


Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Maturity, good judgment and the ability to work comfortably with people in the department; possess the ability to manage in a diverse environment with focus on client and customer services; good organizational, written and verbal communication, and interpersonal skills are essential for success in this role.

2. The ability to identify defects in the preparation and service of food and implement improved quality control procedures as well as to communicate effectively with patients, visitors, employees and support staff is required.

Responsible for responding effectively to changing demands. Must be able to work under pressure and maintain composure in stressful situations, to use good judgment and available resources, be detail oriented, and meet established deadlines regardless of the presence of adverse conditions
4. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is required. P&L accountability and/or contract-managed service experience is desirable.

5. Must demonstrate commitment and adherence to STHS's Compliance Program and Code of Conduct

through compliance with all policies and procedures, the Code of Conduct, attendance at required

training and immediately reporting suspected compliance issue(s) to the Compliance Officer.

EDUCATION / LICENSURE:

1. Work requires knowledge generally acquired through a high school education or GED. Ideal candidates will possess an Associate degree in Institutions Management, Foods and Nutrition, business or other related field.

2. Incumbent will possess a minimum of two to five years of relevant experience (years of experience is greater for larger unit assignments) in a healthcare food service environment serving in a supervisory capacity.

Certified by the City of McAllen or Edinburg (depending on facility employed) or accredited by the State of Texas and ANSI-the American National Standard Institute as a food handler
