- Creation of inspection specifications based on engineering drawings, utilizing knowledge of GD&T.
- Perform first article inspections of components manufactured on-site and those received from suppliers.
- Perform both dimensional and visual inspections, for designated products and parts, ensuring the proper quality tools are used for accuracy and fit-for-use.
- Use of precision measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, drop gauges, gauge pins, thread gauges, and optical systems.
- Assist manufacturing personnel with the knowledge and metrology tools needed to perform their tasks per the Benchmade quality standards.
- Maintain accurate records of all inspections and generate inspection reports, non-conformance records, etc.
- Order and management of production gauging equipment, including calibration, replacement, use locations, etc.
- Work directly with the Quality and Engineering Departments in the identification, isolation, containment, and resolution of non-conforming components found through the inspection, MRB, and non-conformance processes.
- Perform cost analysis to disposition non-conforming products as scrap or rework.
- Participate in cross-functional process and quality improvement projects as a representative of the Quality Department.
- Technical writing of process works instructions and specifications.
- Follow established procedures within the department for all activities.
- Maintain cleanliness of personal and shared workspace based on 6S principles.
- Represent the Quality Department in a positive and consistent manner.
- Effective communicator with the ability to work independently with or without direct supervision.
- Collaborate with Quality and Engineering Departments to determine the best way to inspect parts to ensure consistency in both internal and external manufacturing processes.
- Support the Quality Department with all identified business objectives.
QUALIFICATIONS
- A High School Diploma or GED equivalent and 1-2 years of experience within a quality or manufacturing-related role are required. Equivalency to the qualification standard will also be considered.
- Certified Quality Inspector (CQI) and Certified Quality Technician (CQT) or similar ASQ certification preferred but not required.
- Thorough knowledge of basic inspection tools such as caliper, micrometer, drop gauge, gauge pins, thread gauges, etc.
- Able to interpret basic elements of relevant component engineering drawings, product specifications, and PCIs to disposition questionable products and components both internally made and externally sourced.
- Familiarity with GD&T callouts utilized on mechanical drawings and specifications.
- Able to perform visual inspections for cosmetic components using established specifications, collaborating on acceptance criteria where not previously defined.
- Strong communication, teamwork and problem-solving skills.
- Effective technical writing skills.
- Intermediate computer skills in MS Office applications; familiarity with ERP systems.
- Demonstrate the ability to routinely cover multiple areas (QMS, NPI, and Production) with support requiring a variety of skills in quality methodologies and technology.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Working Environment: Office Position in a production environment
- Physical Demands: Lifting to 25 lbs., sitting and talking on the phone and computer for long periods.
- Travel Requirements: As needed, less than 5% of the time.
