JOB SUMMARY
The Associate Vice President and Chief Advanced Practice Officer (CAPO) is a transformational, visionary leader that manages the organization wide strategy and integration of Advanced Practice Providers (APPs). A key objective for the Associate VP & CAPO is to ensure industry standard APP practice and implementation of best practices across UT Southwestern Medical Center continuum of care. The Associate VP and CAPO will manage the Office of Advanced Practice Providers and develop mission critical Advanced Practice Provider initiatives and programming. The position will provide leadership through excellent management, coaching, and mentoring to ensure the development of APPs is in concert with UT Southwestern's mission, values, and goals.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience
Required



  • Education

    • Master's degree in healthcare, nursing, finance, business, or related field.
    • Graduate of an accredited, Master's level Physician Assistant (PA)/ Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) (i.e. Nurse Practitioner, Clinical Nurse Specialist, Certified Nurse Midwife, or Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist) program.




  • Experience

    • 10 years of progressive leadership experience in a large, complex health care system




  • Licenses and Certifications

    • APRN's must hold national board certification Upon Hire
    • Physician Assistants must be certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants Upon Hire
    • Must hold current, unrestricted license to practice as an APRN or PA with prescriptive authority in home State; and eligible for licensure in Texas if not already in place Upon Hire
    • Unrestricted licensure to practice in the State of Texas required within six months of hire within 180 Days

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Job Duties



  • STRATEGIC LEADERSHIP

    • Provides leadership and direction to the Advanced Practice leadership team for developing and implementing pioneering methods to achieve health system goals through high-performing care teams, enhanced integration of APPs and optimization of Advanced Practice care operations.
    • Partners with physician, nursing and operational leaders across the health system to drive mission-driven clinical transformation and APP care model innovation to enhance integrated care delivery services that allow better precision with predicting patient outcomes and ensure efficient use of limited human capital and financial resources.
    • Provides executive level leadership for APPs and other care team clinicians in partnership with Physician Enterprise, Nursing Enterprise and Clinical Service Lines stakeholders. Develops strategy for innovative models of team-based care.
    • Oversees the development/revision of standardized procedures for APPs to ensure safe, efficient, and high[1]quality care within the APP scope of practice.
    • Uses a systematic process to effectively plan, implement, and evaluate new programs in conjunction with division/service physicians and hospital and clinic leadership.
    • Fosters continuously process improvement to achieve and maintain quality patient care.


  • CLINICAL OUTCOMES

    • Assures the delivery of quality and cost-effective patient care by working collaboratively with the APPs in the practice. Identify and develop process and outcome metrics specific to the practice environments to ensure the highest quality of care and patient satisfaction. Ensure the competition of focused/ongoing professional-practice evaluation with appropriate leadership.
    • Develops structured APP associated metrics for assessing productivity and outcomes of APP quality of care and use data to identify and implement changes to optimize care.
    • In collaboration with senior leadership, explores, recommends, develops and implements new opportunities to optimize clinical care and enable better utilization of APPs.
    • Works closely with physicians, patient care directors and vice presidents to assess and improve the division/service performance and incorporates continuous performance improvement into operations.
    • Collaborates with UT Southwestern stakeholders as well as partner organizations (i.e. Joint Pediatric Enterprise, Texas Health Resources, Parkland, etc.)


  • PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

    • Identifies specific needs for self-development and implements a plan to achieve professional growth and networking to best represent Office of Advanced Practice.
    • Promotes the professional growth of APPs through coaching, mentoring and support. Create a pipeline of talent to meet current/future needs by promoting APP clinical rotations. Develops and fosters relationships with PA/APRN training programs and collaborates with Nursing Professional Development on academic affiliations within schools to support APP placements.
    • Ensures a strong partnership with UT Southwestern Academic Affairs departments and specifically the Physician Assistant Program in accomplishing its academic mission and strengthen the APP pipeline.
    • Facilitates leadership education and development to APP Leaders and APPs by establishing guidelines and financial resources for professional development, education, and research.
    • Represents the function and all APPs, ensuring that they are included in multi-disciplinary activities by chairing or serving as members of various committees that contribute to the organization's excellent clinical care.
    • Develops and oversees a comprehensive orientation/onboarding/mentorship and wellness program for APPs.
    • Oversees and maintain a fellowship program for APPs including accreditation and maintenance.


  • QUALITY AND REGULATORY

    • Maintains/updates policies and procedures relating to the practice of the APPs.
    • Manages patient care, human resources, systems, and workflow processes to achieve and maintain a budget neutral status.
    • Reviews and serves as a content expert related to State Boards of Nursing, Medicine, Texas Administrative Code, and other regulations to ensure compliance.
    • Coordinates the billing practices in conjunction with the Managed Care and Compliance Departments, as well as with medical group practices.
    • Recommends space and other resources needed by the division's service.
