For one year, you can get paid to build sustainable solutions in a community, gain valuable hands-on experience and prepare for your future. This full-time AmeriCorps service position offers a great opportunity to make a real impact in the lives of others while building your own knowledge and skillset.

AmeriCorps National members serve the community in direct service and capacity building activities.

What will you do?


The Construction Crew Leader plays an integral part in building and repairing homes. Lead groups of skilled and unskilled volunteers and homeowner families in construction activities while maintaining a safe, efficient work environment, thus, developing and enhancing your volunteer management and construction skills.

  • Typically serve Tuesday - Saturday on the build site.
  • Assist with all aspects of hands-on construction tasks including, but not limited to, demolition, site prep, framing, insulation, drywall, flooring, roofing, finish carpentry and landscaping.
  • Projects may include new construction, rehabilitation, critical home repair and weatherization projects.
  • Lead small groups of volunteers and facilitate safe and positive experiences for everyone working on site.
  • Maintain site safety by adhering to Habitat construction safety policies, modeling best practices and guidelines, volunteer education and site monitoring.

This position will focus on home construction, home repair, and volunteer services aspects of Habitat affiliate operations.

  • Activities and attractions: Habitat Susquehanna is located in Bel Air, Maryland, an area brimming with attractions and activities. In Harford County, visit the Concord Point Lighthouse in Havre de Grace or enjoy Kilgore Falls at Rocks State Park. Cecil County offers Elk Neck State Park, where you can hike to the Turkey Point Lighthouse for stunning views, and the Plumpton Park Zoo for family fun. A short drive to Baltimore brings vibrant experiences like the National Aquarium, historic Fells Point's shops and restaurants, the Walters Art Gallery, or Fort McHenry. Maryland's state parks, including Gunpowder Falls and Susquehanna State Park, provide hiking, fishing, and picnicking. Nearby, Washington, D.C., and Philadelphia are accessible by train, offering iconic landmarks like the National Mall and Liberty Bell, as well as museums and cultural experiences. This region promises something for everyone to enjoy!
  • Unique projects: Members will participate in two Habi-Tech moves. Our affiliate partners with local tech schools to build Habitat homes for each county we serve. These homes are partially constructed by students and then transported to their final destinations. AmeriCorps members play a critical role in this process by assisting with the preparation of the homes at the schools for the move and helping at the build site when the homes are placed onto their foundations by cranes Members will be crucial in the construction of our affiliate's very first triplex in Havre de Grace, Maryland, expanding our experience beyond duplexes and single-family homes. This project will provide them with the opportunity to participate in the construction of a unique style of home that is not typically built in our community.

When will you serve?

Start dates are flexible and based on this location's availability. Talk to the hiring manager for this position about start dates during your interview process. The start date will be 4-6 weeks from receiving an offer and no earlier than August 2025.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must be a U.S. citizen, national or lawful permanent resident at least 18 or older and have a high school diploma or GED.
