Job Title: Project Engineer - South Central Region

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7-4

Company: Potawatomi Defense Operations, LLC

Location/Site: San Antonio, Texas

Salary Range: $85,000 - $100,000

Summary

The Project Engineer will support the project management team in the planning, coordination, and execution of a small commercial and/or institutional design/build project or to support the project management process for larger projects. The role involves assisting in project scheduling, cost control, quality assurance, documentation, and communication among project stakeholders to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the required standards. The Project Engineer position will be expected to gain an understanding of process management and the ability and agility to perform work that is contracted through a variety of delivery methods that include: indefinite delivery indefinite quantity (IDIQ), Lump-Sum Contracting, Design/Build and Fast Track contracts. The Project Engineer accomplishes work primarily by means of subcontractors; however the Project Engineer has the capability of managing self-performed construction activities that benefit the project.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Include, but are not limited to:

Project Support:

  • Assist the Project Manager in the coordination of construction activities.

  • Help track project progress, update schedules, and ensure adherence to timelines.

  • Experience in the preparation and maintenance of project documentation, including reports, submittals, change orders, and daily logs.

Design and Technical Assistance:

  • Review and interpret project plans, specifications, and contract documents.

  • Assist in the preparation and submission of RFIs (Requests for Information) and ensure timely responses from relevant stakeholders.

  • Support the development of engineering solutions and resolve technical issues on-site.

Quality Control:

  • Assist in monitoring construction quality and compliance with industry standards, codes, and safety regulations.

  • Conduct site inspections and ensure adherence to project specifications and quality control procedures.

Communication and Collaboration:

  • Act as a liaison between the engineering team, contractors, subcontractors, and other project stakeholders.

  • Help facilitate communication on project updates, timelines, and changes.

Cost Management:

  • Assist in tracking project costs and identifying any variances.

  • Aid in the preparation of cost estimates, budget tracking, and procurement of materials.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Ensure that all activities are performed in compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.

  • Participate in safety meetings and support the implementation of safety procedures on the job site.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field with 2-3 years of experience and/or industrial or general contractor with 5(+) years of directly related experience with no degree.

  • A basic to good understanding of construction means and methods associated with the renovation of commercial and institutional buildings and site work related thereto;

  • Knowledge of construction processes, project management tools, and software (e.g., MS Project, Procore).

  • Solid understanding/proficiency with spreadsheets, email, and other software used in the construction industry.

  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and manage multiple tasks.

  • Willingness to travel and visit job sites as required.

  • Demonstrated experience estimating and managing self-performed work activities and subcontracted work;

  • Current safety credentials to include OSHA 30 1, First Aid and CPR;

  • Current CQC certification issued by USACE / NAVFAC 1;

  • US Citizenship required for most positions.

Physical Demands

  • Frequent sitting for prolonged periods of time, using hands/fingers requiring dexterity and coordination to handle files and single pieces of paper, reaching with hands and arms for items above and below desk level, talking, hearing, and seeing (up close, at a distance, along the periphery, with depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus); walking from place to place within the office with occasional use of stairs and no elevator available; bending, pushing, pulling, and standing for up to 2 hours; occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds such as small office equipment, files, stacks of paper, reference and other materials.

  • Work is performed in an office setting with ability to speak and receive phone communications often. Work requires computer usage with strength, dexterity, coordination and visual acuity to use keyboard and video display terminal and other office equipment. Travel required.

  • This position is located on the jobsite in an office workspace/office trailer.

  • This position requires travel.

  • Generally, indoors. While outdoors may be subject to construction site conditions, confined spaces, changes in temperature, weather conditions and noise levels.
