Overview

This is a remote role that may be hired in several markets across the United States.

This position will be responsible for the independent risk oversight of Deposit and Payments. Effective oversight requires a strong combination of industry and/or Large Bank experience along with the ability to apply Enterprise Risk Management ("ERM") and Operational Risk Management ("ORM") frameworks. Success in this role is driven by effective oversight of risk management and assessment activities within Deposit & Payments, including adhering to policies and standards such as Risk Identification & Assessment and Risk Control Self Assessments ("RCSAs"). Other duties include:

  • Establishes and maintains relationships with key internal stakeholders across the Three Lines of Defense, providing support for management and deposit and payment governance.
  • Develops and executes on resolutions of complex problems that require the frequent use of creativity.
  • Uses judgment and risk-based approach within broadly defined policies and practices.

The ideal candidate has a strong foundation in operational risk management, preferably with second line experience overseeing deposit and payment activities. They will be confident in their ability to provide credible challenge and have a proactive approach to identifying and mitigating risk. Ability to use critical thinking is a must.


Responsibilities

Risk Oversight & Monitoring

  • Provides independent oversight of first line business activities related to deposit and payment risks through effective challenge using defined methodologies and subject matter expertise. Collaborates effectively with stakeholders and leaders across multiple organizations to achieve objectives.
  • Review and challenge Risk and Control Self-Assessments (RCSA)
  • Assess risks and controls associated with new products and services
  • Support the development and monitoring of key risk indicators (KRIs) and conduct thematic risk reviews.

Issue and Event Management

  • Provide oversight Operational Risk Events (OREs), including root cause analysis, identification of issues and trend analysis.
  • Monitor and assess incidents impacting deposits and payments processes to identify trends, control weaknesses and emerging risks.
  • Evaluate first line issues, mitigation plans and risk acceptances. Perform issue validation to ensure that control gaps have been mitigated.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree and 6 years of experience in Financial Services, Enterprise Risk Management, Operational Risk Management, Compliance, Audit, Finance, or Accounting OR High School Diploma or GED and 10 years of experience in Financial Services, Enterprise Risk Management, Operational Risk Management, Compliance, Audit, Finance, or Accounting

Other Preferred Qualifications:

  • Direct exposure to deposit and payments systems (e.g., ACH, Realtime Payments, Wires).
  • Knowledge of regulatory guidance and industry frameworks pertaining to deposit and payment related aspects (i.e., NACHA, SWIFT, ISO, UCC, FFIEC etc.),
  • Understanding of three lines of defense model and 2nd line effective challenge
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects
  • Effective at communicating audience- appropriate information to management, and senior audiences
  • Proficiency in assessing risk and risk management practices
  • Knowledge of business policies, standards, and procedures frameworks as well as their development and implementation
  • Knowledge of standard risk management or control frameworks and principles such as COSO.
  • Knowledge of financial sector regulatory practices for a large financial institution
  • Related audit or risk management certification (e.g. CERP, CIA, CISA, CRISC, CRMP, PRM)

The base pay for this position is generally between $100,000.00 and $140,000.00. Actual starting base pay will be determined based on skills, experience, location, and other non-discriminatory factors permitted by law. For some roles, total compensation may also include variable incentives, bonuses, benefits, and/or other awards as outlined in the offer of employment.
