Buckeye Partners is currently seeking an Electrical Engineer II, with experience in design engineering in the pipeline and terminals business, chemicals industry, or other process industries to join our growing team!

Role Summary:

The Electrical Engineer II role is an intermediate-level engineer role responsible for supporting electrical engineering standards as well as working to continuously improve the technical content of our bids, estimates, project construction packages, maintenance programs, and reliability improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities & Essential Functions include:



  • Operations Support. Provide response to field operations requests for technical assistance and guidance on application of electrical equipment in compliance with established company standards.
  • Own Electrical Reliability Program. Includes power distribution and other electrical equipment that is generally 480 V to 35 kV. Responsibilities include:
  • Maintain electrical power load, coordination, and circuit over-current protection studies across all facilities
  • Facilitate Arc Flash safety studies & mitigation projects to manage areas of high incident energies
  • Develop electrical equipment criticality lists with risk-based ranking of electrical install base.
  • Prepare scopes of work and budgetary estimates for proposed maintenance capital projects within the Asset Maintenance Prioritization (AMP) guidelines.
  • Risk rank project opportunities and participate in annual maintenance capital planning.
  • Maintain 20-year capital plan for electrical projects, company-wide.
  • Perform Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) reviews of critical or unreliable equipment.
  • Review Management of Change (MOC)'s and capital projects for reliability improvement opportunities.
  • Perform Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF), Failure Modes Effects Analyses (FMEA) of electrical components.
  • Design Review. Conduct thorough design reviews and provide work instructions to designers and external design contractors relating to capital project design packages.
  • Engineering Standards. Produce, monitor, and improve engineering standards, recommended practices, standard designs, and specifications that form part of the company's design library.
  • Facility Assessments. Perform site visits to assess current electrical install base and improve facility documentation.
  • And other duties as assigned.



Position Requirements:



  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field required.
  • 5+ years' experience as a working design engineer in the pipeline and terminals business, chemicals industry, other process industry, or with an engineering firm serving these industries.
  • Up to 25% travel



Certificates & Licenses:



  • Engineer-in-Training or Professional Engineer certification is highly desirable.



Other Skills, Attributes and Abilities:



  • Excellent communication, both written and verbal, as well as strong organizational skills are paramount.
  • In order to be successful in this position, one must have excellent analytical skills to resolve business and operations problems and have good communication skills to consult with users to provide technical assistance.
  • Skillful in Microsoft Office suite of software, AutoCAD, engineering, and design software packages, including power modeling software (SKM and/or ETAP)



Essential Functions:



  • This position requires the ability to safely and successfully perform essential job functions consistent with ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and or/quantitative productivity standards.
  • This role requires the ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards.
  • This position requires compliance with all personnel policies.



Physical & Safety Requirements:



  • This role is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. (NOTE: Only on an as needed basis, site walk downs and other in field activities but for shorter duration events)
  • Must be able and willing to spend on average 10% of ones time on his/her feet
  • The person in this position needs to occasionally move inside the office to access filing cabinets, office equipment, etc.
  • This role continuously operates a computer and other office productivity equipment (i.e., a calculator, copy machine and computer printer).
  • The incumbent in this role must wear Fire Retardant Clothing (FRC) and/or Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • The employee is frequently required to effectively communicate with others.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • This position is subject to DOT drug and alcohol regulations
