Packaging Engineer III

We are looking for a Packaging Engineer III to help us lead the design, technical development, and implementation of packaging solutions for new and existing products. As a Trex Packaging Engineer III, you will be looked to as an innovator in the manufacturing process and expected to drive continuous improvement to optimize costs and improve sustainability while also meeting our customers' expectations. This role is a key member of our Continuous Improvement team.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead and foster our "people first" culture.
• Collaborate with the project initiator to understand project objectives, expectations, and timelines
• Lead the design and provide recommended options for packaging solutions
• Partner cross-functionally internally (sourcing, manufacturing, marketing, sales, etc.) and with external suppliers to determine the optimal solution
• Determine and lead appropriate testing (drop, ship, weathering, etc.) to qualify packaging for applications
• Lead packaging implementation:
• Develop packaging specifications
• Partner to ensure manufacturing teams are trained, BOMs are updated, supplier is qualified
• Determine and document packing requirements for raw material, WIP, and finished good items to support safe transportation from internal and external suppliers
• Evaluates the effectiveness of new package designs and ensures compliance with all requirements and regulations.
• Evaluate current packaging on products to determine potential packaging improvements that deliver cost savings (material reductions, alternative materials, and reduction in labor), improve sustainability, or drive ergonomic improvements, while also protecting customer expectations
• Lead implementation of continuous improvement initiatives, partnering internally and externally to execute items that enable the realization of the benefits of the initiative
• Develop and maintain a professional knowledge of new and emerging trends in packaging technology
• Identify areas of opportunity to implement new technologies into packaging solutions
• Directly manage the Packaging Specialist
• Provide packaging technical expertise for the organization

Manage and provide ongoing performance, coaching, and professional development opportunities for a team of 1 direct report, a Packaging Specialist.

EXPERIENCE

We are looking for leaders with a bachelor's degree in engineering, science, or a technical field. 8+ years of packaging development experience, 5+ years in a manufacturing environment, and 3+ years of project management experience are required. We want to hear from you if you have previous experience as a Packaging, Design, or Industrial Engineer.

SALARY

Base Salary Range $95,000 - $135,000 annually.

The salary range provided serves as a general guideline for potential compensation for this position. It reflects the base salary and does not account for other benefits or additional compensation opportunities that may apply. This role is also eligible for further compensation through an annual/sales bonus, in addition to the base salary.
