Job Summary

The UCSF OPH Community Nursing Program, under the direction of the UCSF Care at Home Program, under the Office of Population Health Clinical Programs (OPHCP), is a unique team that will be providing medical practice and interventions to those in the community. This Physician Assistant (PA) will provide Primary Care service outside the traditional Primary Care setting. This includes performing wellness exams at community events, ordering and administering vaccines, assisting in completing care gap closures, assisting with patient education, other evaluations of patients that may require referrals to other clinical care, and other clinical duties as assigned. This PA will support patient throughout UCSF Health who are managed by the Office of Population Health (OPH) within the Accountable Care Organization (ACO), Quality Incentive Programs (QIP), Hill P4 Program, and other patient populations of focus for UCSF Health. This will include partnership with some community-based organization within San Francisco.

Under the direction of the Medical Director, the PA is responsible for providing comprehensive direct care to an ethnically and socially diverse patient population in accordance with UCSF Health protocols, policies, and procedures. The PA will ensure a high level of quality in delivery of patient services. In addition, the PA may provide leadership and supervision for other ancillary and support staff to enhance their patient care skills. The PA will also participate in specific clinic programs or initiatives as assigned.

Under the direction of the Nurse Manager, and in collaboration with the Director Clinical Programs and other OPH Leadership, the PA will work on relationship building within Community Based organizations around existing and future projects and events, planning for the community pop-up events within population health, vaccine clinics internally to UCSF and externally to the community, along with supporting projects deemed appropriate by leadership. This team will be an independent team that will collaborate with the Nurse Manager around staff scheduling, daily activities and task, along with internal/external committees membership related to the Community Nursing Program.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $87.66 - $108.99 (Hourly Rate).

Required Qualifications


  • Excellent verbal and written communication, professional, computer and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with a diverse professional and patient population
  • Ability to satisfactorily perform job duties as defined in the job duties/functions
  • Prior experience in urgent critical care environment
  • Must be able to document competent performance of the skills required to perform in the role described.
  • Flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Experience in Home Health, Urgent Care or Emergency Room, Community Nursing or Community Provider Clinic
  • Proficiency in Spanish or Cantonese, spoken and written

License/Certification


  • Active and current California Physician Assistant License (PA).
  • California driver's license (CDL) if required for position.
  • Current national board certification by first day of work and maintain.
  • Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Registration with Schedules 2, 2N, 3, 3N, 4, and 5 registered to a California address
  • Complete an AAPA recognized graduate master's degree program as a Physician Assistant.
  • Submit enrollment with CMS Medicare and Medicaid through the credentialing process by first clinical day.
  • Current AHA BLS.
  • Current AHA ACLS.

UCSF Medical Center and Campus requires certain healthcare providers to be credentialed. In most cases this is done through its Office of Medical Affairs & Governance (OMAG) prior to the first working day. Credentialing and approval of the Standardized Procedures takes between 60-90 days but can vary.
