Major/Essential Functions


  • Follow calibration and measurement methods according to ASTM, AATCC, and in house established methods and procedures.
  • Able to recognize instrument malfunctions, data outliers, and advises lab manager.
  • Able to help in other labs as per work load and priority deadline.
  • Knowledge of computer programs that interface with testing instruments and machines.
  • Have a degree of patience and endurance, due to the delicate nature of test instruments.
  • Analyze and evaluate textile fibers for both research and service purposes and obtain accurate measurements from the instruments.
  • Setting up of fiber, yarn, and testing equipment/programs to operate such machines.
  • Operate all testing instruments within the Cotton Phenomics Laboratory.
  • Able to troubleshoot instruments over the phone with technicians from instruments' manufacturer.
  • Perform maintenance on designated instruments and machines.

Required Qualifications

High school or equivalent and four years experience. Additional job related education may substitute for required experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Experience in the operation of instruments that are used in the testing and evaluation of fibers and yarns.
  • Qualified in setting up of fiber and yarn testing equipment and programs to operate such machines according to the value obtained for the testing of fibers and yarns according to ASTM test methods. Must be a fast learner with ability to recognize erroneous numbers and take action.

Pay Statement
