Aerodynamics Engineer II

At Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI), the Advanced Engineering Lab (AEL) focuses on advanced technology research and development for world-class vehicles. AEL is seeking a talented and motivated Aerodynamics Engineer to support the aerodynamics development of Hyundai vehicles.

The Aerodynamics Engineer will use CFD tools and conduct wind tunnel testing to evaluate aerodynamics for vehicle development purposes and advanced studies. From the early styling design phase to the proto-vehicle phase, the engineer will collaborate with various on-/off-site departments (i.e., styling design studio, engineering design, production quality, test, etc.) using sophisticated assessment methodologies.

What You Will Do:

  • Build and modify vehicle CAD models with CAD software
  • Evaluate and improve the performance of vehicle aerodynamics by:

    • Conducting CFD simulation on vehicle models
    • Wind tunnel testing
    • On-road testing

  • Utilize knowledge of vehicle aerodynamics to analyzethe results obtained from various assessments for vehicle optimization purposes
  • Collaborate with exterior designers and other engineering disciplines to improve aerodynamic performance concerning Hyundai/Kia/Genesis vehicles
  • Maintain good working conditions with other teams within Hyundai Motor Group and collaborative partners
  • Monitor and seek new, trendingtechnologies in the vehicle-exterior space
  • Develop novel flow control technology to improve aerodynamic performance
  • Study the correlation(s) between real-world and wind tunnel aerodynamic characteristics of road vehicles

What You Will Bring to the Role:

  • Required:

    • Master's or PhD degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering with a specialization in low-speed aerodynamics
    • Fundamental understanding of low-speed aerodynamics with in-depth knowledge of bluff body flow
    • Familiarity with CFD and wind tunnel testing methods for aerodynamics
    • CFD software experience

      • STAR-CCM+/PowerFLOW, preferred

    • CAD software experience

      • CATIA is preferred

    • Experience with ANSA
    • Good problem-solving and analysis skills
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
    • Passion for aerodynamics

  • Preferred:

    • Master's degree in mechanical/aerospace engineering with at least 5 years of experience in aerodynamics or a related field, or a PhD degree in mechanical/aerospace engineering with at least 3 years of experience in aerodynamics or a related field
    • Experience performingCFD analysis in external/internal aerodynamics applications
    • Experience in Linux & parallel computations with HPC/cloud computing resources
    • Experience in wind tunnel and real-world testing
    • Experience in assessing the correlation(s) between CFD analysis and wind tunnel test/on-road testing
    • Experience in optimization methods, algorithms, and software
