OVERVIEW:

The Clean and Sober Shelter provides a safe, structured, and closely monitored environment for unsheltered single adults experiencing homelessness. With a recovery-focused orientation, the shelter offers secure sleeping spaces, nutritious meals, and comprehensive case management to support participants in achieving housing stability. The Maintenance technician is responsible for the day-to-day repairs, maintenance, unit turn over, occupant relations, ensure the facility is a safe, clean, and supportive environment for program participants. This position requires excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills to foster a positive living space that supports recovery.

*Please note that role is not set to begin until June 2025*

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

General Maintenance and Upkeep:



  • Conduct routine inspections of the property, including buildings, grounds, and equipment.
  • Perform minor electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and HVAC repairs.
  • Troubleshoot and fix issues with lighting, heating, cooling, and appliances.
  • Ensure that walkways, hallways, and common areas are kept free of hazards and in good repair.
  • Lead all repairs to the facility and work with subcontractors and the janitor to ensure the facility is in excellent condition.
  • Turn over rooms upon occupant exits to ensure the unit is in "like new" condition. Conduct pre-move-in inspections with new occupants, as well as move-out inspections with individuals who are moving out of the facility.
  • Maintenance and repair of the facility's physical infrastructure, including HVAC systems, plumbing, electrical systems, and supervise the Maintenance Technician and Janitor.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, conduct safety inspections, and develop emergency response plans
  • As needed, support vendors and contractors working on the facility.


Cleaning and Upkeep:



  • Maintain cleanliness of common areas, including kitchens, bathrooms, and living spaces.
  • Assist with deep cleaning tasks as needed, such as window washing, floor buffing, and power washing.
  • Handle trash removal and ensure recycling procedures are followed.
  • Conduct routine inspections of living spaces and common areas to ensure compliance with facility policies.

Safety and Compliance:



  • Ensure the facility meets local, state, and federal safety and health regulations.
  • Identify safety hazards and report them for prompt correction.
  • Monitor and maintain fire safety equipment (smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, etc.).
  • Respond promptly to maintenance requests or emergency repairs.


Collaboration, Communication, Administrative:



  • Work collaboratively with other staff to ensure occupants' needs are met.
  • Respect the confidentiality and dignity of occupants in recovery.
  • Communicate any significant maintenance issues or repairs that require outside contractors and quotes for services and repairs.
  • Maintain accurate records of all property transactions, occupant information, and maintenance logs.
  • Assist with the preparation of monthly and quarterly reports for the facility's leadership.
  • Track all repairs, room turn over, and capital projects to ensure they are completed on time and within the allotted budget.
  • Effectively communicating with stakeholders, including senior management, employees, tenants, and contractors
  • Available after-hours and weekend for emergency response as needed
  • Other related duties as required


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:



  • Two years of experience in facility maintenance, preferably preferably in a shelter or recovery-oriented environment serving adults with behavioral health challenges, and/or with populations with significant barriers to self-sufficiency (Required)
  • OSHA Safety Certification (within first ninety days of employment - company provided)
  • HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing Certification (Preferred)
  • High School diploma or equivalent (Required)
  • CA Driver's License (Required)
  • Bilingual in Spanish (Preferred)
  • First Aid and CPR certification (within first seven days of employment - company provided)
  • As required, Tuberculosis clearance (within first fourteen days of employment - company provided)


SKILLS AND ABILITIES:



  • Project Management and Construction
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive issues with professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of property maintenance and repair procedures.
  • Proven experience as a maintenance worker, handyman, or in a similar role.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical, plumbing, and carpentry.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, particularly in working within a recovery-oriented environment.
  • Physical stamina to handle manual labor and lift heavy objects when needed.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations (preferred).
  • Ability to maintain boundaries and work with a vulnerable population with respect and understanding.
  • Ability to adapt to changing facility needs and priorities


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:



  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
