As required by our governmental client, this position requires being a US Citizen.

We are seeking a mission-driven Travel Physician (MD/DO) to support U.S. Military Entrance Processing Stations (MEPS) across the country. This 1099 independent contractor position involves periodic travel to various MEPS locations, conducting medical evaluations, histories, and physical exams for military applicants. You will play a vital role in determining applicants' medical fitness and suitability for military service while maintaining compliance with military medical standards. The ideal candidate will be comfortable with frequent travel, flexible scheduling, and working in structured federal environments. Proficiency with EHRs like MHS GENESIS, Cerner, or Epic is highly preferred. Prior experience in a MEPS (Military Entrance Processing Station) facility or military healthcare environment is highly preferred. Public Trust/NACI clearance is required.

Estimated Starting Salary Range for Travel Physician - MEPS:

Pay commensurate with experience.

Travel Physician - MEPS Responsibilities Include:



  • Conduct full-scope medical histories and physical exams for military applicants.
  • Review and assess applicants' medical documentation and diagnostic results.
  • Determine applicant eligibility using accession medical standards.
  • Record findings using military-compliant EHR systems (e.g., MHS GENESIS).
  • Travel to assigned MEPS locations as scheduled.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and uphold the "Red Carpet Treatment" approach.
  • Comply with HIPAA, Privacy Act regulations, and military medical policies.
  • Participate in peer reviews and local quality improvement efforts.
  • Follow all MEPS and federal site-specific protocols.
  • Travel required (air, car, etc.) to MEPS facilities across the U.S.
  • Work typically performed in clinical or office settings within federal facilities.
  • May be occasionally exposed to loud environments, variable temperatures, or airborne particles.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, and lift up to 25 lbs. during assessments.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.



Travel Physician - MEPS Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities requested:



  • MD or DO degree from an LCME or COCA-accredited institution.
  • Completion of ACGME or AOA-accredited residency OR clinical practice within the last 3 years.
  • Unrestricted, current medical license (any U.S. state, D.C., PR, Guam, or U.S. Virgin Islands).
  • Foreign medical graduates must hold ECFMG certification or completed Fifth Pathway.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of ACGME-accredited postgraduate training.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (with hands-on component).
  • Experience with EHRs: MHS GENESIS, Oracle Cerner, EPIC, or equivalent systems.
  • Strong clinical decision-making, organizational, and documentation skills.
  • Effective communicator, both verbal and written (English proficiency required).
  • Experience across multiple medical specialties (Internal Medicine, Mental Health, Pediatrics, ENT, Ortho, etc.)
  • Mental health screening familiarity preferred.
  • Ability to travel regularly; strong adaptability in diverse environments.
  • Professional demeanor and interpersonal sensitivity in high-volume settings.
  • Must complete Genesis documentation training as required.
  • Must pass pre-employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal.
