POSITION SUMMARY
The Payroll Specialist is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of payroll for PCOM under the direction of the Senior Payroll Specialist, reporting to the Director of Financial Operations. This individual works closely with Human Resources, other departments within the College, and an outside service provider. The Payroll Specialist also serves as a back-up to the Senior Payroll Specialist. This position is responsible for daily cash reporting and provides back up to the Financial Operations Coordinator related to vendor maintenance and cash postings.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Payroll
*
Responsible for maintenance and administration of the timekeeping system.
*
Researches and resolves issues related to data within the timekeeping system for payroll processing.
Payroll Processing
*
Verifies new employees are properly entered into the payroll, including student workers and federal work study students.
*
Processes instructional vouchers ensuring accuracy and compliance with PCOM policies.
*
Reviews and verifies for accuracy any changes to employee rates, hours, and deductions, including benefits, PTO requests, payroll taxes, and other garnishments.
*
Reviews special payment requests, verifying signatures, and ensuring such payments are made in accordance with PCOM policies.
*
Processes payroll within the payroll system.
Payroll Deduction Processing
*
Processes deduction payments utilizing the eProcurement system (pay garnishments, insurances, etc).
*
Processes online payments for employee child support garnishments.
*
Responsible for backing up all duties of the Senior Payroll Specialist.
Cash Reporting
*
Prepares and distributes daily cash report (excel spreadsheet) from online banking platform.
*
Backs up the Financial Operations Coordinator with daily cash posting and vendor maintenance.
*
Other duties as assigned
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Education
*
Bachelor's Degree in business or similar (will be given first priority)
*
Associates Degree will be considered in conjunction with five or more years of experience
Experience
*
Three (3) years of experience in payroll processing for applicants with a bachelor's degree or higher.
*
Experience with payroll and accounting in a higher education/nonprofit organization highly desirable.
*
Ellucian Banner, Workday and/or e-Procurement experience and expertise is highly preferred.
*
Experience with Kronos timekeeping system is preferred.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (strong Excel skills) and financial accounting processes and systems.

Knowledge of and experience with e-procurement systems.

Must be resourceful and flexible in using available resources and technology in the most efficient manner; must be highly adaptable to technological change. The referenced salary range is based on PCOM good faith belief at the time of posting.
