We are seeking a detail-oriented and innovative Data Engineer with a strong foundation in data governance and strategy. This mid-level role is responsible for building and optimizing data pipelines, supporting enterprise data architecture, and ensuring enterprise data assets are governed, secured, and leveraged strategically to support mission objectives and decision-making. The ideal candidate will have experience integrating data governance principles into data engineering workflows.

Responsibilities:



  • Design, build, and maintain efficient and scalable data pipelines to support analytics and business intelligence.
  • Ensure data quality, security, and compliance by integrating governance policies into engineering processes.
  • Support metadata and master data management initiatives through technical implementation and automation.
  • Collaborate with data governance, strategy, and business teams to define data standards and implement controls.
  • Maintain documentation of data architecture, lineage, and transformation logic.
  • Develop and optimize data models for data warehouse and lakehouse environments.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot data pipelines, ensuring availability and performance.
  • Participate in data governance forums and working groups as a technical liaison.
  • Support the implementation of data cataloging, orchestration, and lineage tools (e.g., Collibra, Alation, Informatica, Apache NiFi, Kafka, Airflow).
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity and infrastructure teams to ensure secure data flow across classification domains.


Required Qualifications:




  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • 3-7 years of experience as a data engineer with exposure to data governance principles.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, SQL, and/or Scala.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP); modern data services (e.g., Redshift, BigQuery, Snowflake); and automation or event streaming tools (e.g., Apache NiFi, Kafka).
  • Understanding of data governance frameworks and metadata management practices.
  • Experience implementing data security, encryption, and access control aligned with DoD or FedRAMP compliance requirements.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally.



Desired Qualifications:




  • Experience with data cataloging and governance tools (e.g., Collibra, Informatica, Alation).
  • Knowledge of DoD or federal data regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Familiarity with Agile or DevOps methodologies in a data engineering context.
  • Relevant certifications in cloud data engineering or data governance (e.g., AWS Data Analytics, CDMP).



Salary: 85k+ to align with education and experience

Schedule: Hybrid 1-2 days a week onsite in Charleston, SC

Travel:This position may require up to 20% travel for on-site data integration, system setup, training sessions, and troubleshooting tasks.
