About the Job
Duties and Responsibilities: The Financial Analyst position is an integral component to the accounting/finance team of the Clinical Neuroscience Administrative Center. This position will support the Clinical Neuroscience Administrative Center working with the Finance Director, Accounting and Human Resources areas within the Center to serve the Departments of Neurology, Neurosurgery, Psychiatry and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, as assigned. The position, is responsible for the financial reporting of the clinical missions within the department with additional analyses and reporting responsibilities related to the academic mission. These responsibilities require considerable independent judgment and include budgeting, reporting, analyzing complex financial issues, and assisting with the accurate implementation of the faculty compensation plan. The position will work directly and independently with the Department's Faculty leadership and Administrators as well as the department's clinical partners such as University of Minnesota Physicians (UMP), Fairview, and other regional health care providers. This position will also represent the Center and its supported departments on various committees and UMP led implementation projects and reports to the Finance Director of the Clinical Neuroscience Center.
Financial analysis, budgeting, and reporting for clinical mission (70%): * Models the financial impact of departmental and divisional initiatives using varying financial assumptions. * Prepares operational metrics and develops financial forecasting models and projections * Works independently to prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial results for the department's clinical activities and their sub-specialties * Prepares and manages clinical budgets and forecasts for departments with multiple divisions. * Works with UMP accounting on monthly variance reports and other budget issues as well as in support of accounts receivable and accounts payable. * Works with the UMP business intelligence team to develop internal resources (reporting dashboards) that will assist in overall business/clinical operation measurements * Acts as the key contact and subject matter expert for all clinical contract-related activities. * Works directly with faculty leaders and administrators to determine clinical FTE for malpractice, contract, and financial reporting including review and support of clinical FTE tracking using Qgenda software. * Produces ad hoc reporting and analyses upon request * Ensures compliance with University and UMP finance policy
Financial analysis, reporting, and budgeting for academic missions (10%): * Works independently and with financial staff on departmental and faculty reporting statements. * Develops analysis and reports as needed by the Finance Director, Department leadership and faculty. * Develops pro formas for individual faculty hires with prospective sponsored, non-sponsored, private philanthropic and other revenues. * Analyzes departmental overhead and comparative metrics. * Works to assure proper allocation of university expenses to clinical mission. * Works with faculty and division administrators on projections of faculty recruitments and departures as part of annual budgeting and forecasting processes.
Compensation analysis, reporting, and implementation (10%): * Works with faculty leaders and senior administrative staff to implement departmental faculty compensation plans. * Ensures accurate reporting of data to individual faculty as part of the compensation plan. * Works with finance director and payroll staff to assure accurate implementation of compensation, including production and quality-based incentives. * Assists with other ad hoc compensation analyses as needed.
Miscellaneous Ad/Hoc (10%): Participates in recurring meetings with the Center, Departments and UMP, assists with process improvement initiatives and other special projects as appropriate.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications: * Bachelor's Degree and eight years of experience including financial analysis, budgeting and forecasting; or a combination of education and experience to equal twelve years * Experience presenting financial information to management and organizational leadership * Demonstrated ability to interpret, present and analyze information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials * Ability to effectively organize and lead meetings with stakeholders * Ability to use critical thinking and problem solving skills in complex clinical and financial projects * Excellent interpersonal relations and able to work effectively with a broad range of people * Advanced proficiency with Excel * Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team * Strong organizational skills with ability to use good judgment in prioritizing multiple requests made by persons with competing interests
Preferred Qualifications: * Master's Degree * Experience in health care, especially academic medicine * Demonstrated experience working on financial issues directly with leadership in an academic setting, including developing and maintaining ad hoc reports * Demonstrated experience with compensation plan analyses * Experience making educated, independent decisions and recommendations for action during the course of assigned work duties * Experience with University of Minnesota financial management information systems, EFS Peoplesoft, Workday, Qgenda and Business Intelligence Software (BI)
About the Department
This position is located in the Clinical Neuroscience Administrative Center in the Medical School.
Pay and Benefits
