About the Job

The Department of Dermatology invites interested and motivated individuals to apply for a clinical research fellowship at the University of Minnesota. Our team provides the unique opportunity to work with leaders in Dermatology, who are seeking forward-thinking, self-driven students to explore their interests in Dermatology by working in a fast-paced clinical research environment determined to produce high quality, novel research. This is a full-time ,12.5-month program, expected to last through June 30, 2026.

Job Responsibilities:

Clinical Research Study Coordination and Data Management

Work closely with the Research faculty and staff in Dermatology to support the adult and pediatric Dermatology clinical research studies as assigned. Duties to include:

  • Participate in the design, implementation and evaluation of clinical research projects across the department.
  • Work includes participant recruitment, enrollment, study visits and data collection in accordance with the protocol and good clinical practice guidelines.
  • Assist in the protocol, database design and source document creation.
  • Assist in the conduct of study monitor visits. Prepare and respond to study monitor reports according to the sponsor, CTSI and IRB procedures.
  • Track subject visits and ensure protocol timelines are met.
  • Enter study data and subject data into OnCore and RedCap database.

Clinic Visits

Attend Dermatology clinic visits (adult and pediatric) and work closely with the research faculty to support their protocols. Duties to include:

  • Review and screening patient's charts in the Epic medical record.
  • Review inclusion and exclusion criteria and review with physician.
  • Approach potential patients and inform them of clinical research studies.
  • Document screening activity as required in the protocol.
  • Attend and participate in Dr. Hordinsky's clinic 3-4 half days per week depending on research project schedules.

Regulatory Management

  • Assist in preparing regulatory submissions to the IRB for initial submission and continuing reviews.
  • Work with IRB specialist to respond to stipulations in a timely manner.
  • Draft IRB protocol documents for faculty principal investigator to review.

Writing and Publication Support

  • Assist in the development of abstract and manuscripts for publication and presentations at National conferences.

Other duties as assigned

  • Participate and attend clinical research team meetings for both adult and pediatric divisions.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • US Medical School student (between Third and Fourth Year) in good academic standing or recent US Medical School Graduate.
  • Interest in pursuing a dermatologic specialty or a career in academic medicine and clinical research with a particular interest in dermatologic research.
  • Moderate experience with bench research during undergrad or medical school (lit reviews, data collection, etc.).
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Experience with technical/medical writing.
  • English language proficiency.
  • Authorized to work for any employer in the United States. The Department is unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of employment Visas for this position.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: Expected annual stipend will be $41,600, adjusted for the next fiscal year, according to University and Medical School guidelines.
