THOR Solutions is actively seeking a highly motivated junior-level Marine Electronics Engineer to support the United States Coast Guard (USCG)'s Ship Design Team in Washington, DC. An ideal candidate will have prior experience with marine electronics engineering or integrating C5I systems in one of the following categories: Cybersecurity, Command and Control, Navigation, Networking, Internal Communications, External Communications, Sensors, Combat Systems, or Intelligence Systems, as well as familiarity with U.S. Federal or commercial shipbuilding programs, standards, and regulations.

Typical Responsibilities:
  • Design, develop, test, and supervise the implementation of electronic equipment for shipboard use.
  • Conduct analyses on centralized machinery control systems, interior & exterior communications, sensors, alarms, navigation, combat fire control, and other C5ISR related systems.
  • Analyze and mitigate cybersecurity risks for installed systems and networks.
  • Develop system documentation and ship specifications.
  • Perform design calculations and studies.
  • Review and conduct analyses of power generation and distribution, develop reports, drawings, and specifications to reflect design results.

Location: Full time onsite at USCG Headquarters in Washington, DC. May be limited "local remote" flexibility with customer approval.

Travel:Up to 10% travel is anticipated for ship checks.

Typical Physical Activity: Primarily desk/computer work in an office environment. May involve: repetitive motion. Periodic visits to waterfront/shipboard environments. May involve: traversing shipboard environments (e.g., confined spaces, ladders, hatches) or vision.

Typical Pay Range: The anticipated pay range for this position in the identified location(s) is $60,000 - 85,000. Actual compensation offered will be based upon individual factors including education, qualifications, and experience.

US Citizenship Required:Due to the requirements of the federal contract that this position supports, U.S. citizenship is required. Citizenship will be confirmed via I-9/E-Verify at the start of employment.

Security Clearance Eligibility Required:This position requires a DoD Secret security clearance. A qualified candidate must either already possess an active or interim Secret security clearance (preferred);OR be eligible for a Secret security clearance upon hire.

Typical Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronics, or Marine Engineering, or another relevant technical, engineering, or marine discipline from an ABET-accredited institution.
  • Zero to two (0-2) years of professional experience in general Marine Electronics fields or integrating C5I systems in one of the following categories: Cybersecurity, Command and Control, Navigation, Networking, Internal Communications, External Communications, Sensors, Combat Systems, or Intelligence Systems.
    • Experience gained in a US military or commercial shipbuilding environment is preferred.
  • An ideal candidate will have some experience or familiarity with:
    • Remote sensing, sensor processing and information processing for electronics components and systems.
    • U.S. Federal or commercial ship or boat building acquisition programs.
    • DoD ACAT I or DHS Level I shipbuilding programs.
    • USCG, USN, ABS and/or commercial ship design rules and regulations.
  • Proficient with common productivity software.
  • Strong communications skills.
