Position Overview: Assists the Manager in the daily supervision of the Microbiology Laboratory to ensure that all samples progress through the system accurately with minimal delay. Ensures that all areas outlined as Principal Responsibilities are accomplished in an efficient, professional manner. Responsibilities:
- Supervise laboratory staff to ensure efficient, accurate, and timely completion of day-to-day laboratory activity.
- Organize daily workflow and personnel assignments. Ensure that all necessary work assignments are accounted for on the weekly schedule.
- Coordinate testing with external departments while maintaining a focus on supporting corporate objectives.
- Assist with implementation of test methods and procedures.
- Perform personnel assessments and reviews.
- Technical reference to manager and other departments.
- Perform Microbiologist and Technician Principal Responsibilities as needed.
- Keep self, direct reports, superiors and associates informed of significant information, company policies and procedures, and provide information in a manner that encourages others to give support and willing cooperation.
- Provide support for additional assignments as delegated by department manager.
- Effectively complete "other" functions that may be assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Microbiology or related biological science.
- Approved certification in Microbiology (National or State) preferred.
- 5 years' experience working in a Microbiology Laboratory.
- Understanding of Microbiology Laboratory standard operating procedures.
- Ability to organize multiple tasks and teach others.
- Demonstrates reliability and leadership skills.
- Demonstrates desire to achieve quality and shows attention to detail.
- Must have a high degree of stability, good emotional control, good communication (both oral and written), and must be a goal-oriented team player.
- Ability to successfully motivate people.
- Must be a self-starter, alert for situations requiring action, possess confidence, good decision-making skills and possess the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Must be able to maintain a high activity level and be able to effectively manage and prioritize numerous projects and responsibilities.
- Must be able to work Tuesday through Friday, 7AM - 5:30PM.
