POSITION SUMMARY:

The Health and Safety Manager is a key player in influencing the resort's overall safety leadership and culture. This position will have a significant stake in the resorts performance with Alterra and Resort goals for guest and employee safety. This position will collaborate with numerous other leaders across multiple job functions in order to drive the success of various safety programs. This position will utilize data to drive strategies to implement new initiatives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  • Manage Workers' Compensation program by obtaining forms, creating employee files, entering info into our third-party provider, assigning incident reviews, leading incident reviews, etc.
  • Improving general safety for guests and employees through hazard identification, obtaining and sharing industry best practices, participating in enterprise meetings, collaborating with key leaders, attending conferences, etc.
  • Administrative duties including fielding general inquiries, insurance requests, managing COIs, departmental expenses, etc.
  • Create and implement guest and employee initiatives through data analysis, collaboration, strategic planning, meetings, follow ups, recognition, etc.
  • Address an array of claims including property damage, guest incident, etc. through investigation, mediation, guest recovery efforts, etc.
  • Collaborate with outside counsel on disputed claims
  • Be a leader directly to the Safety Specialist and indirectly to the other resort staff through creating and facilitating safety trainings, talent development, collaboration, hosting meetings, etc.
  • Oversight in alignment with the department of the Workers; Compensation claims' entry and follow through, incident investigations, and action plan implementations
  • Interact and maintain relationships with external partners such as the USFS, Denver Health - Winter Park Medical Center, City of Denver, Town of Winter Park, Fraser/Winter Park PD, Grand County EMS, etc.

  • Be able to communicate verbally and in written form in a clear, concise, professional and tactful manner.
  • Teaching/presentation skills required.
  • Must be willing to organize and run meetings, speak to workgroups and make presentations to management.


EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Education:
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Degree or education in Safety or Health related field a plus but not required.
  • Other Safety / Regulatory licensing, accreditations, or certifications a plus but not required.

Experience:
  • Experience in risk management, insurance, health care, and/or emergency services industries preferred.
  • Proven track record of implementing change
  • History of progressing leadership and culture on a broad scale
  • 5+ years in ski industry or resort operations preferred.
  • Risk Management and/or Regulatory Compliance experience a plus but not required.
  • Experience working with, or familiarity with OSHA regulations a plus but not required.


WAGE:

The base salary range below represents the low and high end of Winter Park Resort's salary range for this position. Actual pay will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to experience, education, training, location, merit system, quantity or quality of production, responsibilities, and regular and/or necessary travel. The range listed is just one component of Winter Park Resort's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include many region-specific benefits

Salary pay range: $60,549 - $87,190

  • Hazardous Materials/Noise: The noise level in the workplace is usually moderate.
