Summary

The Operational Account Manager, Specialized Freight Operations is a specialized role focused on cradle-to-grave management of complex freight movements, including heavy haul, oversized loads, and special project shipments. This position requires extensive knowledge in high-capacity freight, route planning, and compliance with specialized transportation regulations. Additionally, this role provides crucial support for drayage operations and the automotive sector, leveraging industry knowledge to optimize logistics solutions and expand business opportunities.

Duties & Responsibilities:



  • Manages all aspects of cradle-to-grave logistics for heavy haul and oversized loads, ensuring adherence to safety regulations, routing requirements, and permit acquisitions.
  • Handles special project shipments, coordinating detailed execution plans for complex, high-value freight movements.
  • Uses extensive knowledge of heavy haul and oversized freight to identify and capitalize on new business opportunities within niche markets.
  • Builds and nurtures customer relationships through phone, email, and in-person interactions, with a strong focus on heavy haul and oversized freight solutions.
  • Negotiates with transportation carriers and specialized service providers to secure the best rates and ensure access to specialized equipment for heavy and oversized loads.
  • Researches and identifies growth opportunities within the branch's house accounts, specifically in the heavy haul and project freight sectors.
  • Identifies and develops new customer leads, focusing on industries requiring oversized and specialized freight handling.
  • Reviews complex customer freight requests to determine the most efficient and compliant service options, ensuring specialized routing and permitting as required.
  • Proactively manages customer shipment requests, with a strategic focus on large-scale, non-standard freight movements.
  • Utilizes the Transportation Management System (TMS) for data entry, planning, and scheduling, with an emphasis on the complexities of oversized load logistics.
  • Establishes and maintains pricing strategies for heavy haul and specialized freight, providing guidelines for the Carrier Sales team.
  • Monitors and tracks shipments from pickup through delivery, ensuring seamless communication with customers and Key Account Managers, while also addressing potential transit challenges unique to oversized loads.
  • Ensures customer expectations are met or exceeded through close collaboration with the Carrier Sales team and specialized transportation partners.
  • Tracks and traces shipments, ensuring accurate, real-time updates with a focus on regulatory compliance for heavy haul and oversized transport.
  • Prepares spend reports and conducts regular Quarterly Business Reviews (QBR) or Monthly Business Reviews (MBR) with customers, focusing on optimizing heavy haul and oversized freight solutions.
  • Assists in drayage operations as needed, ensuring seamless integration of intermodal and oversized freight solutions.
  • Supports the automotive team by providing specialized freight solutions for heavy and oversized parts and equipment.
  • Other duties and project work as assigned.



Required Qualifications



  • Bachelor's degree in transportation and logistics, supply chain management, or a related field is preferred, or equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years' experience in freight brokerage, logistics, or transportation management with a primary focus on heavy haul and oversized loads.
  • Strong Knowledge of DOT, FMCSA, transportation regulations, permits, and route planning for oversized and heavy haul freight.
  • Experience with transportation management software (TMS).



Preferred Qualifications



  • Certification in transportation and logistics, such as Certified Transportation Professional (CTP) or Certified Logistics Professional (CLP)
  • 1+ years' experience with OS/OW permitting

  • Organizational and project management skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of oversized/overweight transportation and logistics regulations and compliance
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills, particularly in complex shipping environments
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines



Language skills



  • Fluent in English (oral and written)
  • Spanish proficiency preferred but not required



Technical Skills



  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is required.
  • Experience with transportation management software (TMS) is preferred.

For this position, the expected base pay is:$62,500 - $82,500/ Annual. Actual base compensation will be determined based on various factors including job-related knowledge, geographical location, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations.
