Summary

Lee Health is at a pivotal moment, transitioning from a public to a not-for-profit health system. This transformation requires an analytically driven, future-focused strategic growth agenda. Reporting to the Chief Strategy and Innovation Officer, the System Director, Strategic Growth will lead the development and execution of multi-year strategic growth plans, shaping the organizations future and delivering measurable impact.

This leader will independently assess market opportunities, apply data-driven insights, and partner with executives, service line leaders, and cross-functional teams to convert strategic priorities into executable initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic Growth & Market Opportunity Assessment

  • Conduct market, economic, and competitive analyses to identify and prioritize high-impact growth opportunities.
  • Lead assessments of surgical capacity, access points (e.g., UCCs, FSEDs), and referral/network integrity.
  • Evaluate and inform expansion strategies, including ASC shift/backfill opportunities and market share trends.

2. Service Line Growth Strategy

  • Partner with service line leaders to align high-priority clinical programs with identified growth markets.
  • Develop growth roadmaps that integrate service line goals with demographic trends, capacity planning, and strategic positioning.
  • Ensure service line strategies are supported by appropriate access points, partnerships, and capital investments.

3. Strategic Capital Planning & Business Case Development

  • Accelerate speed-to-market through streamlined capital development processes.
  • Develop and apply standardized business case tools and assumptions to prioritize complex initiatives.
  • Support strategic facility planning, land acquisition, and de novo expansion.
  • Guide capital, space, and innovation planning as part of the strategic approval process.

4. Analytics & Insights

  • Bring together market analysis, volume forecasting, competitive insights to inform physician recruitment and outreach.
  • Conduct demographic, geospatial, and financial modeling to guide growth strategies, with a focus on Southwest Florida.
  • Lead opposition and competitive intelligence research to inform strategic positioning.

5. Performance Monitoring & Accountability

  • Establish dashboards and tracking systems to monitor execution of strategic initiatives.
  • Track KPIs and adjust plans to maintain alignment with organizational goals.

6. Strategic Planning Infrastructure

  • Maintain a centralized repository of strategic plans and initiatives.
  • Ensure visibility, communication, and traceability of progress across stakeholders.

7. Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Present strategic plans and insights to executives and the Board in a clear, actionable format.
  • Build strong cross-functional relationships to align and drive growth initiatives.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing strategy team with a focus on execution, accountability, and analytical rigor.

Skills and Competencies Required:

  • Analytical and Financial Expertise:
    • Proficiency in financial modeling and market analysis to inform strategic decisions. Skilled at translating data into actionable insights.
  • Healthcare Market Knowledge:
    • In-depth understanding of healthcare market dynamics, including payer landscapes and macro-economic trends. Familiar with operationalizing strategic goals in a healthcare setting.
  • Project Management Proficiency:
    • Advanced project management skills to guide strategic initiatives through complex approval processes and ensure timely execution.
  • Strategic Thinking and Execution:
    • Ability to navigate ambiguity and translate complex opportunities into actionable goals. Skilled in applying strategic foresight to guide decision-making.
  • Effective Communication and Collaboration:
    • Strong interpersonal skills to influence senior leaders and cross-functional teams. Excellent written and verbal communication skills to convey strategic insights effectively.
  • Accountability and Performance Management:
    • Demonstrated ability to track and ensure the successful execution of strategic initiatives through KPIs and ongoing evaluations.

Education & Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree required; MBA or advanced degree in Business, Healthcare Administration, or related field preferred.
  • 10+ years in strategy, strategic planning, or corporate development, ideally within healthcare.
  • 3+ years of management experience, with a track record of leading teams in complex, matrixed organizations.
  • Proven experience presenting analyses to senior leaders to support strategic positioning and evaluating growth initiatives.
