Essential Job Duties
Join our team as a Roofing Assistant in the Building Maintenance and Operations department, where you'll play a vital role in maintaining and repairing campus roofing systems. This position performs preventative maintenance, assists roofers with daily projects, and ensures a safe and efficient work environment. This role offers a great opportunity to develop hands-on skills in roofing, maintenance, and waterproofing while contributing to the upkeep of campus facilities in a collaborative setting- apply today to grow your career with us!
Key responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to:


  • Perform preventative maintenance on roofs, including clearing debris from drains, scuppers, and surfaces

  • Inspect and document roof deficiencies, reporting them to the supervisor

  • Assist roofers with material delivery, job site preparation, and equipment setup

  • Help patch built-up roofs using hot and cold applications
  • Support waterproofing efforts for buildings and below-grade structures
  • Assist with asphalt patching for streets and caulking expansion joints, belt courses, and coping stones
  • Aid in the installation of signs, benches, tables, and fences
  • Set up scaffolding, climb ladders, and ensure roofers have the necessary tools and materials
  • Maintain cleanliness of gutters and roof surfaces

Other Responsibilities

  • This position is considered essential to the operations of the University and may be required to report to work under adverse weather conditions
  • Position may assist in the removal of snow under the direction of the supervisor
  • Other tasks and responsibilities may be assigned based on the needs of the organization and evolving priorities.

Qualifications


Minimum Experience/Education
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.

Optional Guidelines: Experience in the Trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
Other Required Qualifications

  • Ability to perform apprentice level work assisting roofers with commercial buildings
  • Ability to climb ladders, work on top of university buildings, and lift up to 90 pounds occasionally
  • Must be able to communicate effectively verbally with supervisors and the general public and understand verbal and written instructions and other communications regarding work assignments and other matters

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in a commercial environment, providing support to roofers
Required License or Certification

  • Must have valid driver's license
  • Must be able to obtain a valid NCDL within 60 days of hire & must be maintained
