General Summary of Position We are recruiting for an experienced outpatient / community Pharmacist to join our MedStar Pharmacy DC locations on a PRN basis. Shifts that will need coverage are 10:30am-7:15pm Monday - Friday and 8am - 4pm Saturdays. Dual-licensed Pharmacist in both DC and MD is a plus. Evaluates drugs prescribed by physicians for appropriateness of dose, therapeutic efficacy, allergy, drug interaction, and contraindications; processes prescriptions through insurance company and handles DUR rejects, pre-authorizations, etc.; performs final check on all prescriptions, ensuring accurate input, labeling, and dispensing; and, provides counseling and drug information to patients and physicians. Acts as the pharmacist in charge in the absence of the manager: directing workflow patterns, ensuring daily responsibilities are carried out by assigned staff, resolving issues requiring management intervention, and performing routine oversight of pharmacy operations.Performs final check on all completed prescriptions, verifying the accuracy of input, labeling, and dispensing; makes corrections as necessary; maintains refill and narcotic logs, and prescription files.Processes prescriptions in the dispensing system; evaluates prescriptions for appropriateness of dose, therapeutic efficacy, allergy, drug interactions, and contraindications; handles DURs, rejects, preauthorizations, etc.; communicates with third party payors to troubleshoot issues relating to coverage, reimbursement, etc.Provides clinical information and guidance to physicians and allied health professionals as appropriate to provide safe, prompt, and accurate dispensing of all prescriptions; calls physicians and follows up on refill requests; notifies physicians of Rx's requiring pre-authorizations and discusses alternatives as appropriate.Provides patient counseling as appropriate on a patient-by-patient basis.
Minimum Qualifications Education
- Licensed as a pharmacist in the District of Columbia (DC) required
Experience
- 1-2 years Pharmacy experience, preferably in retail required
Licenses and Certifications
- PHARMD - Licensed Pharmacist - Current DC Pharmacist license, including Immunization/Vaccination Certification and registration with the board of pharmacy in that district. required
- CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Verbal and written communication skills.
- Basic computer skills preferred.
This position has a hiring range of $100,588 - $190,340
