Reviews and investigates all property damage and minor bodily injury claims to both determine liability, and the value of the claim. Communicates and negotiates directly with our customers to explain the process, settlement on basis of customer service, or denial when appropriate. Performs a variety of administrative duties dealing with the investigation documentation, information-gathering process and claim file maintenance.

What You'll be Doing:

  • Reviews all property damage (minor and complex). Determines additional information needed and conducts investigation. Consults with outside agencies or companies.
  • Reviews Minor Bodily Injury Claims. Investigates by confirming details at store level and communicates with customers. Based on established criteria, makes determination on whether to deny claim or if settlement should be offered based on customer service or liability on the part of Meijer, Inc.
  • Reviews Non-Represented claims for potential indemnification as a result of contractual or common law indemnification rights.
  • Obtains approval for settlement above the authorized limit. Negotiates with customers to arrive at a mutually- acceptable settlement in order to maintain customer goodwill.
  • Communicates with a variety of persons inside and outside the company including customers, witnesses, etc. to gather and/or explain case-related information.
  • Works regularly with confidential information dealing with claimant medical records and investigations.
  • Processes claims for third-party-inflicted damage to company property including handling subrogation claims and billing to third party for recovery. Monitors status of payment and passes on to Legal Department if not paid within 90 days.

What You Bring with You (Qualifications):

  • High School graduate with knowledge of basic office procedures and business math.
  • 1+ year(s) of training and/or related experience in order to effectively settle claims.
  • Keyboard skills and working knowledge of standard office equipment.
  • Interpersonal skills to deal courteously and tactfully with guests and with persons inside and outside the company while investigating claims. Ability to maintain good will with customer while explaining or negotiating outcome of claim.
  • Analytical ability to review claims in order to determine appropriate guidelines and to investigate claims obtaining as much detail and documentation as required.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize a large number of claims in various stages of settlement and to maintain detailed documentation of all activities surrounding claims.
