Job Description
Performs electroencephalographic examinations according to established standards and practices as ordered by Physician.
Job Responsibility
1.Abstracts relevant information from patient's medical record and obtains additional information, as required.
2.Transports EEG equipment to patient's rooms and various departments, as required.
3.Communicates procedure activities to patient in layman's terms, based on professional knowledge.
4.Positions patient on examination table for optimum testing as appropriate
5.Operates EEG equipment and takes electroencephalographic tracings.
Applies electrodes on predetermined measured positions on patient's head and checks performance.
Selects predetermined electrode combinations and any special combinations required by case under study.
Identifies artifacts and takes appropriate steps to eliminate them from recordings.
Uses activating procedures such as hyperventilation, photic stimulation and sleep.
Obtains standard recordings and any abnormal clinical manifestations.
6.Documents test results in patient's medical record and reports findings to clinician.
7.Monitors other variables such as electromyograms, electrocardiograms, electrooculograms, respiration, etc.
8.Cleans EEG equipment according to Infection Control protocols.
9.Calibrates and performs minor maintenance on EEG equipment to maintain operating condition. Removes and reports defective equipment to supervisor.
10.Operates EKG apparatus and auxiliary equipment. Maintains and cleans EKG equipment.
11.Performs related duties, as required.
Job Qualification
High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
Graduate from an accredited or formal certificate EEG program, required.
Certification from an approved EKG program or appropriate clinical orientation and training, preferred.
Registered Electroencephalographic Technologist (R.EEG.T), preferred.
Prior experience performing EEG testing, preferred.
Ability to communicate effectively.
