The Opportunity
Mass General Brigham's Digital Research Operations Team is immediately seeking a Full Stack Developer to join our team and support our community. This position works within the multi-disciplinary Digital Research Computing Core team and will work directly with the Research Computing Core Senior Manager and lead Software Engineer, to develop and support WordPress websites and application builds for the Mass General Brigham research community. The Full Stack Developer will be part of all evaluation calls and will be integral in offering solutions for varying requests.
The WordPress Full Stack Developer will collaborate with the lead Software Engineer on the following tasks: developing and documenting workflow and determining the software technical design that best meets the needs of our research community; provide a time estimate to complete the work product; implement requirements using software development best practices; train/educate end-users in the deliverable's use and functions.
The WordPress Full Stack Developer will also assist in troubleshooting users' issues within the system, fix bugs and manage feature requests. Lastly, the candidate will perform security patches and performance updates, as needed.
This position will work across Digital teams and will work under the general direction of the Research Computing Senior Core Manager. The successful candidate will have a strong ability to effectively set priorities, make decisions and work in a fast-paced environment. Must be successful in a non-supervised environment and have the ability to quickly learn applications used within the institution for performance of duties. The incumbent will have a lot of opportunity for growth in this role.
Responsibilities include
*Work with the Digital Research Computing Core's Web Team to provide solutions for WordPress websites and application development in response to Researcher's requests.
*Perform analysis, design, development and testing tasks with direction.
*Recommend technical approaches and assist with development of time estimates for Statements of Work
*Update or create technical and user documentation using wiki and knowledge management tools (Confluence).
*Identify opportunities for improvement, reporting on progress, and asking for what you need.
*Maintain code in version control system; understands the importance of commenting code.
*Create custom plugins or modify existing ones and integrate third-party APIs into WordPress for added functionality.
*Work with database queries, optimizations, and ensuring efficient interaction between WordPress and MySQL.
*Work directly with Departments and Research Labs at Mass General Brigham on projects that require this person to track and manage their time into a project billing system.
*Off-hours production pushes may occasionally be required

*Perform other duties as required by the situation and circumstances

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Degree in Computer Science or related field preferred
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience as a developer
  • Experience with WordPress required
  • Experience with HTML 5, CSS 3, PHP, JavaScript and Editing HTML content required
  • Active experience using GIT version control
  • Proficient using BootStrap 5 or other open-source CSS frameworks for responsive design
  • Strong understanding of compatibility and cross-browser issues
  • Proficient in user interface design and usability experience principles, strongly desired
  • Knowledge of performance optimization, SEO practices and web accessibility standards.
  • Practices good communication and listening skills, with a strong commitment to customer needs and knowledge transfer
  • Desire to learn newer technologies is critical.(Node.js, ReactJS, Etc.)
  • Proactive and aware of critical dependencies; manages deadlines and follows through on commitments
  • Attention to detail, well organized, problem solver and able to set priorities


Working Conditions

  • M-F Eastern Business hours required
  • Hybrid onsite flexible working model required, weekly onsite AR / Boston MGB Local sites for department and business needs, teammate must be flexible
  • Remote working days require stable, secure, quiet, HIPPA compliant working station
