Overview
The Safety Management System (SMS) Manager is responsible for assisting in the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the Corporate SMS to include elements of the Safety Policy, Safety Assurance, Safety Risk Management, and Safety Promotion components of the system.
Responsibilities
Assist SRC Leadership in the management, continuous improvement, coordination, and execution of a SMS in accordance with the guidance contained in 14 CFR Part 5 and current Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Advisory Circular's (AC's), and in accordance with International Standards
- Ensure adherence to the standards and objectives of the Corporate Safety Policy of the organization
- Assist in the monitoring and measurement of Safety Performance throughout the organization
- Assist in the management and administration of the Hazard Identification and Safety Risk Management programs
- Provide expertise and support in the completion of internal and external audits of the SMS
- Track and analyze technical data from hazards, events and occurrences, and identify, and interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets
- Assist in the administration of the corporate databases for the purpose of improved airline safety
- Provide technical expertise regarding data models, database design development, and data mining
- Prepare applicable reports and communicate safety related information in support of the SMS
- Manage relationships with representatives from all operational departments, regulatory authorities, and other relevant areas of the organization
- Promoting safety awareness, encouraging open reporting of safety concerns, and ensuring that safety is a priority at all levels
- Assist with the development, delivery and maintenance of SMS training to ensure employees possess the competencies appropriate to their role in Atlas Air's SMS
- Additional roles and responsibilities as required to support the ongoing success and effectiveness of the SMS
Qualifications
- College degree in Aviation Management or related field, or equivalent management experience
- 5+ years experience in airline operations or aviation safety
- Strong understanding and knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulation's (FAR's) and International Standards and Recommended Practices
- Strong technical and data analysis skills
- High level of proficiency with data analysis software programs
- Skilled in the use of MS Office (with advanced skills in Excel and PowerPoint)
- Experience with industry safety data programs such as ASIAS, OSHA, IOSA
- Strong written and verbal communication skills including technical writing skills
- Knowledge of the organizational structure of a large air carrier
Preferred:
- FAA aircraft dispatchers certificate
- FAA pilot certificate
- FAA mechanics certificate
Salary Range: $73,000 - $98,500 Financial offer within the stated range will be based on multiple factors to include but not limited to location, relevant experience/level and skillset."
