Job Summary

Dorman is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Electronics Quality Engineer to join our Advanced Electronics business unit. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the quality and reliability of automotive electronic components and systems, including the control software. This role involves direct collaboration with cross-functional teams to implement quality control processes. Champion supplier corrective and preventive actions, identify and resolve quality issues, and drive continual improvement initiatives.

Primary Duties

  • Develop and implement quality control plans for electronic components and systems.
  • Review specifications, source code, schematics, test data & results to ensure system design meets functional, reliability, quality requirements, and compliance with coding standards.
  • Leading Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) tools; failure mode (FMEA), measurement system analysis (MSA), statistical process capability (SPC) and advanced part production approval process (PPAP)
  • Investigate customer complaints and field failures. Lead root cause analysis, corrective & prevention actions (CAPA), and process improvements.
  • Research vehicle electrical systems, I/O, and wiring diagrams to gain an understanding of their operation.
  • Analyze PCBAs and schematics to identify root cause of failure.
  • Serve as Quality Engineer on cross functional project teams as part of APQP Process Development activity.
  • Develop automated testing scripts and tools to validate software functionality and performance.
  • Understand field failures by combination of building bench-test setup, using established tests on production lines, and on-vehicle data-capture testing

Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of electronic components, systems, circuit functionality, & quality control methodologies.
  • Experience with root cause analysis and problem-solving techniques.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in quality management software and tools. SAP QM is a plus.
  • Experience with microcontrollers, embedded systems, and software development.
  • Experience with power supplies, signal generators, oscilloscopes, and similar equipment.
  • Knowledge of vehicle communication protocols including CAN bus and LIN bus.
  • Experience soldering components to printed circuit boards and splicing wires.
  • Working knowledge of root cause analysis techniques: 8D, 3x5Y, Shainin, DFSS, DMAIC
  • Working knowledge of APQP processes: DFMEA, PFMEA, Control Plans, and PPAP
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite; focus on Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
  • Creating, implementing, and improving procedures and work instructions

Education / Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related degree
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in quality engineering, preferably in the automotive industry.
  • Familiarity with industry standards such as IATF16949 automotive-specific standards.
