SEMCO - Operations Technician II

Position Summary
SEMCO is seeking an Operations Technician for our Niles, MI team! Under direct supervision, the Operations Technician II supports the Operations department with a variety of field duties relating to the installation, operation, and maintenance of gas service lines, pipelines, gas regulator stations, and meter and storage fields within the assigned geographic area.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Prepare, coordinate, and record work orders and cost estimates.
  • Oversee the district leak and atmospheric surveys.
  • Inspect new and replacement service and main installations.
  • Represent the company at various pre-construction meetings.
  • Stake service and main locations.
  • Respond to customer and contractor inquiries. Maintain the appropriate documentation and reports on findings and actions.
  • Prepare and present regular and special reports.
  • Assists/fill-in for supervisor with day-to-day operations. Trains and monitors junior Operations Technicians.
  • Adhere to company internal control procedures and financial processes.
  • Maintain knowledge of current trends and developments in the field.
  • Adhere to Company policies and procedures related to the Code of Business Ethics, compliance, responsible use of Company assets, and all applicable state and federal laws.

Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities

  • High school diploma or GED required, supplemented with college courses or vocational training in drafting, surveying, electrical, circuits wiring, or other related fields required
  • 3+ years of experience in electrical and/or gas distribution experience is required.
  • Knowledge of basic mechanical & electrical principles is preferred.
  • Analytical and organizational skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent customer service orientation.
  • Working knowledge of various personal computer business software applications (i.e. Microsoft Office Suite). Ability to learn new systems or software packages as necessary.
  • Ability to maintain and promote a positive work atmosphere through effective interactions and communications with co-workers, customers, and management.
  • Strong commitment to maintaining a safe environment for co-workers, customers, and the public through adherence to established safety standards and timely reporting of potential hazards.

We offer a competitive pay range of $31.73 to $38.76 per hour, commensurate with experience, education, and skills. We provide a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.
