Job Summary

The College of Education at Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) seeks to hire a Clinical Assistant Professor, Teacher Education in the Department of Teacher Education and Learning Science. This position is an in-unit, nine-month, Clinical Assistant Professor on a multi-year contract. The anticipated teaching load for this position is three and four 3-credit courses per academic year.

As a Clinical Assistant Professor, you will teach undergraduate and graduate level courses as appropriate in different instructional modalities, supervise student field experience, engage in course and curriculum development and scholarship activities, and serve on college and university committees. In addition, you will be expected work effectively with students, colleagues at the college, and community members on other duties as assigned. The teaching assignments may be on our region's main campus or local off-campus sites. You may also be requested to coordinate an academic program and teach during the summer semester as needed. Job Description

Typical duties include but are not limited to:

  • Teach assigned courses and adequately perform other duties/responsibilities as articulated on the annual assignment, including instruction-related tasks, such as advising and mentoring students, adopting course materials, completing mandatory/required training, etc.
  • Engage in essential duties with the highest standards of integrity, responsibility, excellence, and within the accepted practices and norms of your respective field/profession.
  • Participate in curriculum development and advancement of the respective program.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure curriculum outcomes and accreditation standards are met.
  • Advise students, mentor students, and provide individual assistance to students during weekly office hours.
  • Continued professional development activity is expected.
  • Actively participate in community, institutional, and professional service to further FGCU's mission.
  • Attend faculty and college meetings as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Additional Job Description

Required Qualifications:

  • Doctorate (Ed.D., Ph.D.) in education or a closely related field from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Experienced teaching in teacher preparation programs in the USA.
  • ABD will be considered if degree is conferred by August 7, 2025. If successful candidate is ABD, appointment will be made at the Lecturer level on a fixed contract.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Evidence of designing and implementing quality teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels across multiple instructional formats and in different modalities (e.g., in-person, asynchronous online, hybrid, synchronous online, etc.).
  • Evidence of supervising teacher candidates in practicum courses, providing structured supervision and transformative mentorship that fosters professional growth in diverse school environments.
  • Evidence of collaborating with colleagues to design, evaluate, and refine programs and their curricula that meet accreditation standards and student needs.
  • Experienced with different instructional technologies and Canvas, the learning management system at FGCU.
  • Three or more years of teaching experience in K-12 environments in the USA.
  • Actively engage in scholarly activities and data analysis to inform teaching practice.
  • Evidence of offering meaningful professional service.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of major concepts, assumptions, debates, processes of inquiry, and ways of knowing that are central to the discipline(s).
  • Understanding how to use digital and interactive technologies for efficiently and effectively achieving specific learning goals.
  • Knowledge of critical thinking processes and understanding how to help learners develop high level questioning skills.
  • Knowledge and skill in the use of inquiry-based instructional models and strategies.
  • Knowledge and ability to use technology in various teaching modalities (e.g. Face-to-face, synchronous online or asynchronous online).
  • Ability to collaborate with stakeholders both within and outside the University in the development and delivery of instruction, resulting in improved student learning.
