We are looking for an experienced and motivated individual to fill the position of Engineer Advisor Facilities, Compression Focus in our ORCM Reliability and Maintenance Group.

This position is accountable, cooperatively with other line functions, to meet the goals of Occidental Oil & Gas in Safety, Environmental and Production. Contribution to meet these goals will be achieved by maintaining the workplace in a safe and reliable condition in addition to, but not limited to, the following:

  • Maintain protection of the environment and the health and safety of our employees, customers, and the communities in which we operate, as our highest priority

  • Assure compliance to Policy and Procedure expectations/standards (MOC's, PSSR's, Procedures, Audits, etc.)

  • Ensure others including yourself, are respected, supported, and encouraged to grow and succeed in their job

  • Provide Subject Matter Expert Support to supply chain, business units, and functional teams with respect to the specification, selection for application, design, and installation of gas compressors for ORCM

  • Support development of compression standards, design guidelines, and analyses tools for ORCM

  • Track and report on leading indicators and KPI's for gas compression to functional teams, business units, and supply chain; KPI's to include but not be limited to - uptime availability and environmental emission performance; communicate KPI performance to leadership as appropriate

  • Support improvement of Oxy's environmental footprint in relation to compression

  • Support compression related pilots including new designs, operational strategy, operation and maintenance practices, and predictive monitoring technologies

  • Provide Subject Matter Expert Support for RCFA's regarding compressor failures and/or HES Events related to the malfunction of a gas compressors in ORCM

  • Work to optimize rotating equipment performance through work with operations and maintenance teams

  • Support the high-speed compressor maintenance staff to implement best maintenance practices and provide technical expertise to reduce costs, and improve process uptime and mechanical reliability

  • Provide mentorship for personnel involved in compression in Operations, Supply Chain, and Facilities and Construction

  • Support compression surveillance to maximize uptime and throughput

  • Support OPEX reduction and compression optimization initiatives

  • Support the development and implementation of preventive and predictive maintenance for critical compression equipment (including but not limited to compressors, dehydration & JT systems....etc.) to maximize uptime and throughput

Qualifications

Education:

  • BS in Engineering Preferred or Applicable BS of Science

Experience:

  • Candidate should have 10+ years of Engineering experience in oil & gas processing specifically relating to the specification, design, installation and troubleshooting of large gas compressors

Professional/Technical Knowledge:

  • Expertise in the specification, design, installation and troubleshooting of gas compression

  • High proficiency in Microsoft Applications (such as Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, and Outlook)

  • Knowledge with compression sizing/modeling software, including Ariel, etc.

Professional / Technical Qualifications/Licenses/Certifications:

  • Professional Engineer and/or Project Management Professional certificate preferred

Skills & Competencies:

  • Highly customer focused

  • Extensive knowledge of oil and gas processing facilities and best practices

  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)

  • Demonstrated ability to build/maintain team cohesiveness, effectively motivate, coach and mentor team members

  • Demonstrated strong analytical/problem solving skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and effectively with other teams or departments

  • Fundamental understanding of MOCs, HAZOPs and PSSRs

  • Basic knowledge of SFRM principles

  • Knowledge in simulation modeling of facilities

Safety and Physical Requirements:

  • This role is occasionally subject to possible hazards (e.g.--chemical, extreme heat or cold, exposed heights)

  • Ability to travel to all areas in the facility which may require climbing, ascending and descending stairs traveling long distances as required

  • Lifting, carrying, stooping and reaching

  • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required

  • Ability to respond to audible and visual alarms

  • Ability to communicate verbally and or in written form

Other:

This position requires 15-25% travel
