About the Role!

We're currently seeking a Mortgage Loan Originator (MLO) to join our growing team. This is a full-time position offering a competitive base salary plus commission-a unique opportunity where many roles are commission-only. We offer construction loans and other portfolio products that are not commonly available through other lenders.


About You

What You'll Do!

  • Proactively generate residential mortgage loans supported through internal referrals provided by our 7 local branches and our commercial lending staff.
  • Develop relationships with referral sources such as realtors, builders, developers, etc.
  • Guide borrowers through the full mortgage process-from pre-qualification to closing
  • Accurately complete applications and gather required documentation in compliance with mortgage regulations (TRID, ECOA, RESPA, etc.)
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, partners, and colleagues across departments
  • Collaborate with mortgage processors, closers, and underwriting staff to ensure a smooth and timely loan experience
  • Stay up to date with loan programs (FHA, VA, USDA, conventional) and regulatory changes
  • Represent the bank at internal meetings and community events as needed

What You'll Bring!

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education a plus
  • Minimum 3 years of residential mortgage lending experience
  • Knowledge of FHA, VA, USDA, and conventional loan programs
  • Excellent communication skills, a collaborative attitude, and customer-first mindset
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; Encompass (Ellie Mae) experience preferred
  • Active NMLS registration (or ability to obtain)

  • Strong interpersonal skills to build rapport with clients, colleagues, and external partners
  • Analytical ability to evaluate financial data and recommend appropriate loan options
  • Ability to navigate multiple systems and meet strict regulatory and quality standards
  • Familiarity with federal mortgage regulations, including HMDA, TRID, ECOA, RESPA, FDPA, etc.

Language, Math & Reasoning Skills

  • Ability to clearly and tactfully communicate complex loan terms and processes
  • Strong reading comprehension for interpreting business, legal, and financial documents
  • Proficient with basic math and financial calculations, including rates, percentages, and ratios
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to apply logic in varying situations

Physical Demands & Work Environment

  • Must be able to sit for extended periods and use a computer and phone regularly
  • Occasionally required to stand, walk, reach, kneel, or lift up to 20 lbs.
  • Must be capable of regular, reliable, and timely attendance
  • Noise level is typically quiet to moderate
