Position Summary

The UNM Clinical and Translational Science Center (CTSC) is seeking an internal candidate who is knowledgeable of CERC services related to qualitative research methodologies to serve as a Community Research Specialist. The mission of the CTSC Community Engagement and Research Core (CERC) is to provide research infrastructure that supports academic and community members to engage in mutually beneficial partnerships for effective clinical and translational research. The CERC provides expertise in the full spectrum of the research process that supports and expansion of research within communities in New Mexico

The ideal candidate will have qualitative research experience including coding of interviews and focus group transcripts, possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with a variety of university faculty and staff and community members. In general, this position will perform a range of community-engaged and qualitative research activities, including 1) community engagement and outreach; 2) study coordination and project implementation (e.g., study orientation, recruitment, data collection); 3) qualitative data collection (interviews and focus group facilitation); and 4) qualitative data analysis and dissemination.

Summary

Under general supervision, uses fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures of a particular field of specialization to perform varied scientific research tasks of moderate complexity requiring application and adaptation of established techniques, procedures, and criteria.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Analyses, evaluates, and interprets research data, and prepares summations and inferences for review by investigators.
  2. Contributes as appropriate to the development of summary reports, presentations, and manuscripts associated with original research findings.
  3. Conducts qualitative research, analysis and prepares dissemination materials.
  4. Performs research assignments involving a number of variables and applies or uses scientific procedures, laboratory equipment, and computer technology which may involve complex functions or features.
  5. Receives and carries out instructions on specific assignment objectives, complex features, and possible solutions.
  6. Collects, analyzes, and interprets data; prepares statistical and narrative reports and/or graphs.
  7. Maintains currency of knowledge with respect to relevant state-of-the-art technology, equipment, and/or systems.
  8. Designs, performs, and/or oversees experiments and data collection to ensure data integrity, quality control, and protocol compliance.
  9. May lead and guide staff and/or students engaged in associated research support activities.
  10. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

TERM APPOINTMENT; FUNDING AVAILABLE THROUGH 07/31/2025; CONTINUANCE BEYOND THAT DATE SUBJECT TO AVAILABILITY OF ADDITIONAL FUNDING.

Conditions of Employment
  • For individual positions in which driving is a job requirement, a valid NM driver's license and valid UNM driver's permit will be required.
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.


Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.



Preferred Qualifications

* Experience using NVivo Software.

* Experience coding and analyzing qualitative data.

* Demonstrated leadership skills.

* Experience with REDCap Electronic Data Capture System

* Experience collecting, compiling and analyzing program activity data.

* Knowledge of CTSC CERC operations and activity.

* Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in diverse communities.
