Job Overview:

This system role will be responsible for the development and execution of nutrition and health education programming under the Community Health Project and the Social Impact mission. The role assists in the oversite of key projects which serve as the cornerstone for nutrition education work across RWJBarnabas Health in addition to specific functions at NBIMC. This role operates under the direction of SVP Social Impact and Community Investment (SICI), RWJBarnabas Health.

This role will oversee the development and implementation of education programs including the current treatment and prevention models of the KidsFit program and many nutrition and health education programming at the Rev. Dr. Ronald B. Christian Community Health and Wellness Center at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center. The role is also responsible for development of the curriculum and driving the expansion of our Food is Medicine strategy KidsFit prevention model currently in over 100 schools in New Jersey through our exclusive train the trainer model, conducting teacher training and fostering district commitment state-wide. This role is also responsible for the oversite of the treatment or clinical model of KidsFit at NBIMC with expected expansion to additional sites in 2025 (West Orange Pediatric Endocrinology practice and Children s Specialized Hospital s Union location) with plans for future expansion. This role will also be responsible for the development of education program classes at our upcoming Food Hub Cooperative in Newark, scheduled to launch in August 2025 and school food service collaboration in Newark School system launching in 2025.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelors degree in Nutrition and Dietetics, Registered Dietitian
  • Experience in public health and community programming addressing the social determinants of health
  • Strong operational and communication skills with
  • Collaborative and team work ethic

Preferred:

  • Masters preferred

Essential Functions:

Responsibilities for the role at NBIMC and system SICI include:

Program operations management:

  • Communication and coordination with Community Health and SICI leaders in each facility
  • Curriculum and teaching materials development, teacher training and outcome measurement of the KidsFit prevention program in over 100 schools in New Jersey
    • NBIMC Women s Wellness Food Farmacy education content and materials
    • KidsFit in Motion program and contracted services, sponsored The Devils Youth Foundation
    • KidsFit treatment model/Family healthy weight program at NBMIC with plans to expand to additional sites including CSH and West Orange Pediatric Endocrinology Practice
    • Hannah Peretsman Breene Foundation and Hannahs Kitchen pediatric healthy cooking program which is an extension of KidsFit treatment program and NBIMC
  • CDC REACH Cooperative Agreement pillar Policy and Physical Fitness policy at the macro level in the designated communities including New Brunswick, Jersey City and Newark
  • Assist with oversite and coordination of the education and nutrition programming in the future Food Hub Cooperative scheduled for opening in August 2025

Budget oversite:

  • NBIMC Wellness Services budget
  • NBIMC Beth Fitness Center budget
  • Assisting in oversite of the CDC REACH Cooperative Agreement budget at NBIMC with expansion currently underway n RWJUH New Brunswick, JCMC.

Direct reports: 2 Full-time positions with additional FTE s due to KidsFit expansion

  • 1 FT Program Manager for CDC REACH Cooperative Agreement
  • 1 FT Registered Dietitian covering the Pediatric Health Center and the KidsFit treatment/Family Healthy Weight program at NBIMC
  • Additional staffing to be hired in the Newark Food Hub and KidsFit program expansion in additional ambulatory sites

Acts as front line liasson in many SICI key partner relationships present and future:

  • Healthy Food in the Schools coalition partner
  • Urban Agriculture Cooperative
  • Community Food Bank of New Jersey
  • Fulfill Food Bank, Neptune, New Jersey
  • New Jersey School Districts Curriculum and physical education leaders
