Position Summary

The IT System Administrator will provide assistance and support to all Forgen employees across offices and job sites in the design, development, installation and usage of technology hardware, software and applications. Supporting infrastructure hardware, operating systems, software, data storage, networking and virtualization, this position will operate in a team that reports to the IT Manager.

Key Responsibilities

System Maintenance and Support:



  • Install, configure, and maintain hardware and software systems, including servers, workstations, printers, and mobile devices.
  • Monitor system performance and troubleshoot issues to ensure maximum uptime and reliability.
  • Perform regular backups and data recovery operations.


Network Administration:



  • Manage and maintain local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs), and wireless networks.
  • Ensure network security by implementing firewalls, VPNs, and other security measures.
  • Monitor network traffic and identify potential security threats.


User Support:



  • Provide technical support to employees, including troubleshooting hardware and software issues.
  • Conduct training sessions to educate staff on best practices for using company technology.
  • Create and maintain user accounts and access permissions.


Database Administration:



  • Manage and maintain databases to ensure data integrity, security, and availability.
  • Perform database backups, recovery, and performance tuning.
  • Develop and implement database policies and procedures to ensure data accuracy and consistency.


API Management:



  • Develop, maintain, and monitor APIs to ensure seamless integration between software applications.
  • Implement security measures to protect APIs from unauthorized access and data breaches.
  • Collaborate with software developers to design and optimize APIs for better performance and reliability.


System Upgrades and Improvements:



  • Plan and implement system upgrades and updates to keep our technology current and efficient.
  • Research and recommend new technologies to improve company operations and productivity.
  • Collaborate with other departments to identify technology needs and develop solutions.


Documentation and Reporting:



  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps.
  • Generate regular reports on system performance, security, and user support activities.


Basic Qualifications



  • Extensive skills, training, and knowledge of hardware, software, and operating systems.
  • Two to Five (2-5) years of progressively responsible experience in selecting, installing, supporting, and using computer applications and Windows Server-based software or equivalent experience.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are a must.
  • VMWare virtualization
  • SQL Database Administration knowledge a plus
  • Familiar with API connection requirements, a plus
  • Support of remote hardware and software.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
  • Flexibility to work outside regular business hours to minimize impact on users.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft 365, Video Conferencing, Remote Support tools, Ticketing systems, Windows operating systems, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, VMware, Veeam Backup and Replication, Digital and VOIP phone systems, Cisco Meraki Networking standards, VPNs.
  • Linux administration experience


Physical Demands & Work Environment

This office-based role requires frequent computer use and effective communication, with occasional travel to project sites as needed. Site visits may involve extended periods of standing or walking and required PPE, with potential exposure to heavy equipment, chemicals, dust, fumes, uneven terrain, and extreme weather.
