Job Duties and Responsibilities Responsible for all Company manufacturing engineering operations including designing of new manufacturing processes and integration of new equipment into the plant. Authority to work across the corporation to drive improvements and share lessons learned. Authority to engage directly with customers about the manufacturability of products solve problems. Approval authority for manufacturing processes. Authority to hire and terminate employees in keeping with company policies. Authority requisition routine supply items as needed to run the department.
- Manage the daily operations and assignments of the Manufacturing Engineering (ME) Team.
- Manage, direct and be accountable for projects related to new products launch into production, new equipment, new/improved processes, new lines, and overall efficiency improvements.
- Establish Strategy, Goals and objectives for the ME Team
- Establish and document process for new products release into Production.
- Manage and implement Continuous Improvement efforts.
- Perform through-put and time-studies including efficiency, accuracy, validation and improvement.
- Generate, monitor and report production metrics, and manage actions associated with metric improvement.
- Closely work with the Plant Managers to assess operational requirements and areas where production efficiencies can be enhanced.
- Continually monitor and review the progress of various manufacturing projects across the corporation, including the design, lay-out and flow of new manufacturing processes.
- Identify, evaluate, manage installation, integration and prove-in of new equipment.
- Work with customers to resolve technical issues.
- Train employees of high-tech operations.
- Ensure validation of product readiness for shipment.
- Troubleshoot equipment and processes.
- Lead shop flow lay-out projects including material storage, machine location, plant flow.
- Develop part programs.
- Maximize material yield.
- Define job sequencing.
- Create drawings for production use.
- Ensure ME Team performs job functions in a safe manner.
- Ensure statutory, regulatory and environmental regulations are taken into account and addressed on projects owned.
- Ensure corporate policies Quality System procedures are followed.
- Ensure cross departmental communication is accurate and effective.
- Other ad hoc duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to interface with customers and apply customer concepts or blueprints to a manufacturing method or determine manufacturing feasibility.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills, ability to effectively direct the work of Project Managers and Industrial Engineers as well as manage a project through potentially many departments by eliciting the support of floor supervisors and quality and scheduling.
- Considerable knowledge and experience in metal/machine shop techniques.
- Considerable project management experience including use of Microsoft Project or similar software.
- Proficient using CAD, Word, and Excel.
- Experience with six sigma and 5S and demonstrable results
- Ability to read, understand and explain schematics, blueprints and/or technical manuals.
- Ability to assess operational requirements and to plan and organize workflow patterns and schedules. Ability to design multi-stage production lines.
- Good understanding of ISO or AS9100 quality systems.
- Exceptional organizational skills and ability to multi-task.
Education and Experience
- College degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering and 5 years with applicable experience in a metal/machining manufacturing environment, or 10 years' experience in a precision metal fabrication environment. Three years supervisory experience, minimum. Aerospace/Defense experience is desired.
