Senior Counsel providing legal support to the business activities of the midstream and marketing segment of Occidental Petroleum Corporation. The midstream and marketing segment purchases, markets, gathers, processes, transports and stores crude oil, condensate, NGL, natural gas and power. The segment also trades around its assets, including transportation and storage capacity, invests in entities that conduct similar activities, and supports Occidental Petroleum Corporation's low carbon ventures segment with midstream and marketing related issues.
* Reporting to the Associate General Counsel for the Midstream and Marketing segment of Occidental Petroleum Corporation.
Primary Responsibilities:
* Provide legal support in connection with Occidental's midstream business, including support related to (a) crude oil and natural gas gathering agreements, (b) gas processing agreements, (c) the development of midstream infrastructure, (d) the transportation of CO2, and (e) other operational issues.
* Provide midstream and marketing transactional support in connection with the acquisition, divestiture and restructuring of domestic oil and gas assets.
* Provide legal support in connection with Occidental's crude oil, NGL and natural gas marketing business, including support related to (a) contract negotiation and interpretation of physical purchase and sale and exchange transactions (lease level, market hub and maritime); and (b) the transportation/storage of product via pipeline, truck, rail and vessel charters.
* Provide advice and support on regulatory issues arising in connection with the midstream and marketing business, including FERC, CFTC and Texas Railroad Commission regulations.
* Provide support to trade control and credit functions, including broker agreements, credit insurance and other credit-related agreements.
Qualifications - External
* Juris Doctor degree for an accredited law school; strong academic credentials
* State bar membership in good standing
* Preferred Lawyer with at least 6 years' experience, at least partially with a leading law firm
* Excellent academic credentials
* Excellent interpersonal skills
* Excellent drafting skills
* Strong commercial mindset with the ability to work with senior commercial managers
* Ability to coordinate issues with other legal and business functions
* Experience with gathering, processing, transportation, storage and other contracts utilized in the midstream and marketing sectors
* Experience with marketing contracts, including general terms and conditions used in the crude oil, NGL and natural gas marketing and trading industries
* Experience with mergers, acquisitions, and joint ventures
* Experience with trade control processes and contract management systems
Relocation: Will not be offered at this time
