Job Summary:



The Associate Dean for Faculty Experience, Leadership Development and Coaching in the Office for the Faculty Experience (OFE) at the University of Colorado School of Medicine (CU SOM) will be responsible for designing, implementing, and overseeing leadership development programs that enhance the leadership capacity of faculty at all career stages. This individual will lead initiatives that support early-career and mid-career faculty, and senior leaders. Additionally, the Associate Dean will play a critical role in expanding coaching capabilities across the CU SOM, deploying programs to build coaching and communication skills in faculty and leaders.

This role is pivotal in enhancing the leadership capabilities and overall well-being of our faculty, ensuring that the institution fosters a culture of effective leadership, professional growth, and organizational excellence. This position is at least .50 FTE and is eligible for benefits.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership



  • Identify and advocate for best practices in leadership development and coaching and recommend new programs and offerings.
  • Partner with other OFE leaders to strengthen initiatives and ensure they align with institutional priorities and faculty needs.
  • Identify opportunities for strategic collaborations across the School of Medicine and broader university.


Leadership Program Oversight and Innovation



  • Oversee, teach in, and enhance existing leadership development programs ensuring they align with best practices and institutional goals.
  • Design and implement additional leadership development offerings that span:

    • Foundational Leadership: Managing self, including goal setting, negotiation, and conflict management.
    • Leading Teams: Vision and planning, process improvement, value delivery, team dynamics, and collaboration.
    • Organizational Leadership: Strategic planning, recruitment and retention, finance and resource management, and relationship leadership.


  • Support onboarding for new leaders and develop, implement, and support a "Peer Network" for new leaders to partner with existing leaders for guidance and support.
  • Provide guidance to leaders about evidence-based leadership practices, including leadership infrastructure, 360 evaluations, and immediate supervisor development, in collaboration with other OFE leaders.
  • Identify, select, and support faculty candidates for prestigious external leadership development programs.
  • Establish, track, and report metrics related to leadership goals and objectives to ensure measurable impact.


Executive Coaching and Leadership Support



  • Provide executive-level coaching to faculty leaders.
  • Establish, support, and coordinate a network of faculty coaches across CU SOM, in collaboration with other OFE leaders.
  • Deploy programs that build coaching and communication skills among faculty to enhance leadership development at all levels.
  • Provide individual, group, and team coaching for faculty, OFE team members, and leadership cohorts.
  • Establish, track, and report metrics related to coaching goals and objectives, ensuring measurable impact on leadership development.


Budget Oversight & Contract Negotiation



  • Oversee budget planning and financial oversight to support sustainable programming.
  • Ensure financial stewardship of operations.

Work Location:



Hybrid - this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule of 3 days per week on campus and as needed for in-person meetings. Alternative schedules may be approved in accordance with campus policies.

Qualifications:



Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.



  • MD, DO, PhD, or equivalent terminal degree in a relevant field.
  • Associate Professor or higher rank.
  • Minimum 5 years of demonstrated experience in faculty development, leadership training, and executive coaching within a medical or academic environment.
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing successful coaching and leadership development programs.
  • Strong understanding of leadership development principles, team dynamics, and organizational strategy in an academic medical setting.
  • Certified Professional Coach with an ICF Level 1 accreditation or higher.
  • Extensive experience in executive coaching, particularly within the healthcare sector.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Professor rank.
  • Prior experience as an Associate or Assistant Dean for Faculty Affairs or Development in a medical school.
  • Experience working with AAMC leadership programs or similar national faculty development initiatives.
  • Experience in tracking and reporting leadership and coaching program impact metrics.
  • Strong financial acumen, including experience with budget oversight.

  • Strategic Vision: Ability to develop and execute long-term strategies that align with institutional priorities and enhance faculty leadership.
  • Innovative Leadership: Proven aptitude for refreshing existing programs and developing new offerings that respond to evolving trends in leadership development.
  • Collaborative Partnership: Strong interpersonal skills to build and sustain relationships with diverse stakeholders, including department chairs, faculty, and institutional leaders. Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • Coaching Excellence: Expertise in executive coaching and mentoring, with the ability to build and support a robust network of faculty coaches.
  • Communication & Facilitation: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills; proven experience in teaching and facilitating leadership development programs.
  • Data-Driven Decision Making: Competence in establishing, tracking, and reporting on metrics to evaluate program impact and guide continuous improvement.
  • Organizational Acumen: Deep understanding of academic medical environments, faculty development processes, and succession planning strategies.

Anticipated Pay Range:



The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

$225,000 - $275,000

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
