Physical Therapy Aide - BWH

Overview:
1.The rehab aide is an individual who has interest in rehabilitation care and the general supportive functions of an acute rehab clinic.
2.Their primary responsibilities are to assist all rehabilitation staff in the day-to-day operation of the service in accordance with State licensing regulations, departmental standards and policies under the direct supervision of the clinical staff.
Principal Duties:
1.Assists with inventory control with oversight by the Purchasing Clerk of the department; stocks supplies, monitors par levels of items, maintains stock in good order.
2.Responsible for the daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance and cleaning of rehabilitation equipment. Responsible for maintaining logs related to this cleaning.
3.Maintains the clinic in a neat, an orderly manner; changes linens, cleans, prepares treatment surfaces/equipment.
4.Assists in greeting/escorting patients and facilitating smooth departmental flow of patients.
5.Assists supervising therapist in patient care in accordance with state licensing regulations.
6.Performs clerical and operational tasks as assigned, including but not limited to; front desk coverage, filing, scanning, organizing patient education materials, assembling documents.
7.Under the direct supervision of a Physical Therapist, Wellness Instructor or Athletic, the rehab aide can perform interventions, assist with patient/client care as directed. These interventions include but are not limited to; application of hot packs, cold packs, assisting patients on-off equipment, supervising patients while they are doing exercise/therapeutic activity that is well-established and that the patient can do independently.
8.Completes other appropriate duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimally has a high school diploma, some college and/or experience as an aide in a medical environment is preferred.

  • Interest in the field of Rehabilitation is desirable.

  • Bachelor's degree, or some college education preferred.

Skills / Abilities:

  • Must possess communication and interpersonal skills sufficient to work closely with all staff.

  • Must possess decision making skills and entry level health care knowledge to effectively complete duties and responsibilities (up to 90% of work time).

  • Work requires up to three months' orientation to acquire necessary familiarity with department and hospital policies and procedures, and the specific quality standa

  • Must possess effective communication skills (written and verbal) to interact with patients (up to 50% of work time), rehabilitation team (up to 80% of work time), and patients' families (up to 10% of work time).

  • Demonstrates competence in all physical therapy interventions that have been delegated.
