Balazs Nanoanalysis is a contract analytical laboratory owned by Air Liquide Electronics is world-wide leader in supplying gases, specialty chemicals and services to a wide variety of industries. Balazs Nanoanalysis operates analytical labs around the world serving both internal and external clients. We support clients in a wide array of industries including semiconductor, biotechnology, aerospace/defense industry, solar, energy storage, automotive and many others. Our highly-skilled chemists assist other scientists and engineers from companies in these fields to support a wide array of activities such as quality assurance, contamination studies, R&D and failure analysis.

How will you CONTRIBUTE and GROW?

Our Thin Film and Advanced Materials Lab specializes in a wide variety of measurements including QC/QA, Failure Analysis and R&D support. We use surface characterization equipment including x-ray fluorescence, spectrophotometry, physical property probes, scanning electron microscopy, and other; as well as in-situ and bulk elemental analysis via ICP-OES, ICP-MS and Colorimetry.

The Laboratory Technician II will work in an exciting, fast-paced and dynamic environment and be part of an enthusiastic team passionate about providing quality data, maintaining documentation, and communicating with team members. A successful candidate must be able to provide scientific observation, follow procedure and be consistent. This individual will be responsible for performing anodized aluminum testing, assisting with imaging work, preparing samples for ICP-OES, ICP-MS, colorimetry, and imaging, which may include cutting, cross sectioning and polishing samples. The candidates would preferably have prior experience with physical property testing, as well as analytical chemistry and acid handling.

The selected candidate will be part of the Thin Film Lab at our Fremont, CA lab in the heart of the San Francisco Bay Area, home of Silicon Valley.

Job Responsibilities
  • Sample receipt, log in and data entry into the laboratory information management system in a timely and accurate manner.

  • Delivery and transportation of samples between the labs as required.

  • Performing sample preparation and routine analysis, including polishing and cutting of aluminum coupon samples.

  • Prepare reagents and clean bottles, glassware and plasticware for lab use.

  • Perform general maintenance and troubleshooting on assigned instruments to ensure they remain operational and minimize downtime.

  • Maintain records for instrument calibrations and preventive maintenance.

  • Calibration and tuning of instruments.

  • Change out and transportation of gas cylinders within the lab as needed.

  • Follow all SOPs and lab safety and quality requirements.

  • Ensure that all activities within the lab are conducted in a safe manner and within company policies including local and federal regulations.

  • Remain current on all training and foster a safe working environment.

  • Understand and follow safe handling procedures for hazardous chemicals.

  • Work collaboratively with team members on analyses as required.

  • Communicate internally with the commercial team, other lab groups, and with customers.

  • Updates the laboratory manager and supervisor on activities in the lab.

  • Participates in continuous improvement efforts within the lab on improved methods and method development.

  • Maintain 6S in the laboratory

  • Complies with the established Quality System and reports quality deficiencies.

  • Perform sampling at client's facility as assigned and complete all other additional assignments as required.

  • HS Diploma with 3 - 5 years industrial laboratory experience ORAssociates degree in chemistry or a similar science and 2 - 3 years experienceORBS in Chemistry or similar science and 1 - 2 years experience

  • Ability to work in a team environment with good communication skills (both written and spoken).

  • Work safely at all times and ensure a safety culture and a safe working environment in the laboratory.

  • Administer safe laboratory practices, and keep all related safety trainings up to date.

  • Must be able to provide support to other laboratory areas as needed.

  • Must have good problem solving skills, take initiative and be self-motivated.

  • Must be able to work under pressure and pivot on short notice.

  • Proficient in computer skills such as LIMS, Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, Docs, Slides, etc.

  • Must be able to lift heavy loads (+50 lbs) with the assistance of others.

The hourly rate range for this position in California is $30.00 to $32.00
