The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) is a non-profit, bipartisan public policy organization established in 1962 to provide strategic insights and practical policy solutions to decision makers concerned with global security and prosperity. Over the years, it has grown to be one of the largest organizations of its kind, with a staff of some 200 employees, including more than 120 analysts working to address the changing dynamics of international security across the globe.
The Freeman Chair in China Studies is a leading source of insight and analysis on China's evolving political system and the dynamics that impact its domestic policy agenda and external behavior. Our mission is to shape the public policy debate by providing timely and objective analysis that challenges the status quo and informs policymakers, the public, and corporate executives on the most important issues impacting China's political trajectory. The Freeman Chair is recruiting a Fellow or Senior Fellow who will make substantive contributions to the research agenda of the Program, through writing, research, data/trend analysis, and project development and management. Qualified candidates must possess a background in Chinese politics, international relations, and data analysis.
The salary band for a fellow is $70,000-$110.000; the salary band for a senior fellow is $110,000 to $145,000.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential functions may include, but are not limited to the following:
* Develop and manage large-scale and multi-year research projects relating to China's political system;
* Conceive, write and edit content for the Freeman Chair and leading outside publications in the field international affairs, domestic politics, and current events relating to China.
* Conduct qualitative and quantitative research;
* Moderate public and private events related to the work of the Freeman Chair;
* Supervise and mentor junior staff and interns;
* Conduct and participate in meetings with external partners.
KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE:
* For a fellow, an MA in a related field and four years of relevant experience; for a senior fellow, an MA in a related field with six years of relevant experience or a Ph.D. in a related field;
* Demonstrated expertise on issues concerning Chinese domestic politics and economics, foreign policy, and international relations;
* Capacity to conceptualize innovative and cutting-edge research topics;
* Demonstrated history of superb writing and editing skills;
* Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities;
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills;
* Strong public speaking and external communication capabilities;
* Experience with quantitative and qualitative analysis;
* Proficiency in Mandarin preferred;
* Superior ability to conduct research in Chinese using primary source documents;
* Proficiency with Microsoft Excel/Google Sheets.
