Role Overview (Scope of Role)

The Application Lab Technician (Latex Compounds)'s purpose is to continue supporting the Binders business in the North American carpet latex market by performing testing and analytical work focused on product and application development, customer-specific product/process issues, and back-up mill technical support-act as a role model for Environmental, Health, and Safety performance.

The role represents Trinseo in working with external customers in our laboratory facilities and the customers' manufacturing and laboratory facilities by independently running routine and non-routine lab tests. Generates accurate and reliable results and regularly document them in lab databooks and research reports. Initiates and cooperates with chemists or engineers to develop or improve testing procedures and/or instrumentation to generate higher-quality results. Possesses a broad understanding of a wide range of instrumentation and equipment. Ensure availability, calibration, and maintenance of equipment and independently troubleshot medium to complex problems, including those escalated by junior colleagues.



Responsibilities

This role requires in-depth knowledge of latex technology, laboratory equipment, and manufacturing processes. The incumbent works autonomously and highly efficiently, following procedures and guidelines with minimal supervision. Primary job responsibilities include:

    Complete application testing lab studies to analyze latex compounds for the carpet industry
  • Receiving, labeling, and safely storing both hazardous and non-hazardous raw materials
  • Manage the product documentation databases, including safety and technical datasheets
  • Designing, executing, observing, analyzing, and interpreting lab data
  • Manage lab materials and supplies
  • Packaging, labeling, and shipping of product samples
  • Maintaining excellent housekeeping
  • Operate diagnostic equipment to assess the performance of the customer's finishing equipment
  • Assist in executing latex product trials at customers' facilities
  • Perform preventative and routine repair maintenance on lab equipment


Qualifications

Minimum Education Required:
  • Associate's Degree in related field; Bachelor's Degree preferred
Minimum Experience (years and type):
  • 3+ years of work experience in latex manufacturing technology, analytical chemistry, and carpet manufacturing technology are preferred but not mandatory.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Coating/adhesive lab experience or similar chemical background.
