The Department of Engineering and Public Policy (EPP) is a unique department in the College of Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University which addresses important problems in technology and policy. We educate technically skilled students to be leaders in policy-focused research; we work on policy problems in which the technology matters.

The Department of Engineering and Public Policy at Carnegie Mellon University seeks candidates for a two-year Postdoctoral Fellowship to pursue research on, and perform analysis of, legal, regulatory, institutional, political, and social obstacles to the expansion of electric power transmission capacity in the United States. The candidate, who will be based at Carnegie Mellon (CMU), will work with, and be supervised by, Prof. Granger Morgan at CMU as well as by Prof. David Victor in the School of Global Policy and Strategy at UC San Diego (UCSD). Occasional travel to UCSD may be required.

Applicants should provide a full CV, cover letter and between 1 and 3 recent writing samples.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Collect and analyze data, including periodical/literature search and utilizing specialized skills in related field to analyze the collected data.
  • Participate/assist in manuscript writing for publication in scientific journals and/or presentations. May also assist in grant writing.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Doctorate degree required
  • Experience with political science and/or regulatory law
  • Knowledge of infrastructure siting issues and the behavior of regulatory agencies and regulated firms
  • A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.
