Are you an experienced and dedicated lifeguard looking for a summer position? New Hanover County is seeking a Pool Coordinator to join our Parks and Gardens Department for the summer season. This leadership role is perfect for someone who is passionate about water safety, facility management, and fostering a team-oriented environment. As the Pool Coordinator, you'll play a vital role in overseeing daily pool operations, ensuring the safety of our patrons, and leading our lifeguard staff. Responsibilities for this role include:
- Responsible for the daily physical operation of the pool; supervise and schedule for the effective use and maintenance of the aquatic facilities.
- Responsible for the safety of facility patrons.
- Communicate and enforce all facility policies, rules, and regulations.
- Recognize and respond effectively to emergencies.
- Facilitate timely and appropriate responses to customer comments/complaints.
- Respond to citizen inquiries and concerns and provide pool information as needed.
- Inspect the aquatic facility on a daily schedule and report unsafe conditions and equipment to supervisor.
- Complete records and reports regarding the following: pool attendance, water chemistry, incidents and accidents.
- Schedule and coordinate staff meetings, in-service training and maintain records of content and participation.
- Coordinate new lifeguard staff orientation.
- Ensure current lifeguard certifications are maintained.
- Assist with hiring, training, supervising and evaluating of lifeguard staff.
- Responsible for assisting with lifeguard scheduling
- Ensure lifeguards are properly scanning pool at all times.
- Manage aquatic facility in absence of Program Coordinator.
- Responsible for aquatic facility maintenance during hours of supervision.
- Responsible for either opening or closing facility.
- Develop, implement, manage and evaluate all aquatics programming
- Actively promote customer service through aquatic activities.
- Carry out additional duties as assigned by the Program Coordinator.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Must have aquatic certification.
- Must have a minimum of two to four years experience in lifeguarding and pool operations
- This position requires an individual with an enthusiastic personality who can develop harmonious relationships with staff, guests and volunteers
- He/she must also be highly organized, possess superior supervisory skills and demonstrate sound judgment, initiative and independent thinking
- Must present a professional, mature image and have excellent interpersonal communication skills
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to pass lifeguard water test.
- Ability to remain alert with no lapses of consciousness in an outdoor environment.
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time, including in an elevated chair.
- Hear noises and distress signals in surroundings.
- Observe all areas of the pool with clear vision.
- Communicate verbally, including projecting voice across distance in a dynamic, potentially loud environment.
- Perform all needed rescues, resuscitation and survival skills.
- Think in abstract, solve problems and make quick decisions.
