JOB DESCRIPTION The pre-identified resource initially identified for this job is nol longer being considered. Please make this job a priority for your recruiters. Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Job Functions): Construct and update geologic model, GIS data integration, seismic monitoring, subsidence surveys, mechanical integrity testing, tracer enthalpy testing, down-hole temperature and pressure surveys, geophysical surveys and geochemical studies. These projects require coordination of personnel, equipment, permits, purchase orders and contracts. Create specific local and regional geologic interpretations to support continued operations and development of the Salton Sea geothermal resource, using 2D and 3D digital methods. The interpretations will be defined with supporting information that can reviewed and presented in various software programs. The information and interpretations will be accumulated, filed, and managed to support future work and a geologic conceptual model. The common sources of information will be mud logs, electronic logs, including FMI, pressure-temperature-spinner surveys, and a 3D seismic survey. Determine optimum targets for drilling or re-drilling wells. Targets will balance productivity, long-term effects and drilling logistics. Assist drilling with well construction design when geologic input is needed (i.e., casing points, carbon dioxide zones and formation stability). Manage and monitor directional drilling and mud logging. Preparation and/or review of regulatory reports for submittal to: California Department of Conservation - Geologic Energy Management Division (CalGEM), County of Imperial, the California Air Resources Board, the environmental department and similar organizations as needed. Interpret technical data from dissimilar sources. Draw conclusions and provide recommendations to management and operations. Technical writing - the ability to draft memorandums for authorization for expenditure (AFE) requests, weekly reports, geologic prognoses and internal reports of interpreted information. The audience for these reports will include, but not be limited to CalEnergy's general manager, the president of BHE Renewables and public agencies. Support land department through knowledge of surface and mineral leases for resource management and long-term strategy. Provide geological technical support to CalEnergy and global BHE projects as requested, including development support of the Salton Sea geothermal field and mineral extraction. Perform any additional responsibilities as requested or assigned. Performance Expectations (Key Success Factors): Adhere to, and support all safety and environmental rules, policies, and procedures. Promote a positive safety culture and environmental respect. Collect, file and provide information to all regulatory entities, maintain resource related regulatory compliance without compromising safety. Interpret and manage resource information, share knowledge within company and provide recommendations. Participate within the department and the CalEnergy organization using open communication, teamwork, accountability, responsibility and mutual respect. Demonstration of advanced technical knowledge, and an advanced understanding of geothermal and the company's business processes. Participation on teams that results in contribution to achievement of team goals and objectives, sometimes in a lead role for a phase of a project. Perform responsibilities as directed within determined time frames and with a high degree of accuracy. Provide accurate input into the budget process and contribute to meeting the actual targets. Establish and maintain effective work relationships within the department and the company. Maintain the professional competence, knowledge and abilities by taking personal responsibility for professional development and training. Maintain sensitive and confidential information regarding company information. Attend work on a regular basis and support the company's employee policies and procedures, including workplace safety rules. Ensure all compliance aspects of position are known and followed; understand and comply with all policies, codes and regulations applicable to position and company. Position Requirements: Bachelor's degree in geology, geophysics or related science is required. A graduate degree in geology, geophysics or related science is preferred. A minimum of three (3) year of related professional experience is needed for the Geoscientist position. Most of the experience should be in the geothermal industry. Experience in oil and gas, particularly in drilling and sedimentary basins, and/or hydrothermal mineral resources (mining and mineral exploration) experience may also count towards the candidate's years of experience. Experience and familiarity with drilling operations, capabilities and well site geology. Ability to work and think within a three-dimensional space and acclimate to changing reservoir conditions through time. Must be proficient in Geographic Information System (GIS), AutoCAD and Leapfrog to manage and update field maps and the geologic model. Ability to analyze and interpret technical reports, procedures or regulations. Ability to effectively present information, written or orally, and respond to questions from technical and non-technical managers and employees. Ability to work with mathematical concepts, including trigonometry, probability, statistics, interpolation and, at times, calculus. Proficiency with Microsoft office, including Access, is required. Ability to utilize and understand software tools including; ArcGIS, AutoCAD, Kingdom Suite and Rimbase. Ability to solve difficult problems and function when information originates from non-similar sources and the resulting data must be synthesized. Comprehension of the power generating and brine processing facilities, and interpretation based geologic and operational influences is paramount. Worker should be able to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. |
