Associates are eligible to apply for a lateral transfer after completion of one (1) year of service in their present position, with the following exception: an Associate who has received a written warning is not eligible for a transfer/promotion prior to six (6) months from date of issuance; an Associate who has been suspended is not eligible for transfer/promotion prior to one (1) year from date of suspension. Part-time Associates who have completed their probationary period can move to full-time vacancies within their department provided such movement will not unreasonably reduce the operational efficiency of that department. Probationary period is three (3) months for full-time employees, and four (4) months for part-time employees who works more than 3/5 of the normal workweek. Probationary period will not apply to shift changes.

Over the past fifty years, Montefiore's Division of Services for Addiction has helped thousands of people enter recovery and re-join their families and communities. Through recovery, individuals are empowered to help find meaning in their lives and integrate back into their communities.

The Vocational Counselor will assist in the implementation of vocational project services and to identify assess and provide services to assist substance abusing patients in making appropriate educational and vocational choices toward their established goals.

Responsibilities:

* Perform an initial vocational interview and functional assessments to obtain vocational/educational background information and identify preliminary needs of patient

* Develop vocational rehabilitation plan with long and short term goals

* Provide on-going individual and group counseling to help patients make appropriate vocational decisions and assist them toward their established goals

* Assist with applications for jobs, training programs, educational programs, etc for patients

* Assist in the coordination and evaluation of vocational services and maintaining databases with relevant project information to ensure compliance with funding agency's expectation

* Participate in Interdisciplinary Case Conferences to discuss pertinent vocational treatment plans and progress

* Other duties as assigned

Experience:

* Bachelor's Degree required, Master's degree preferred in Vocational Rehabilitation, Counseling, Psychology, Social Work or otherwise related field

* Candidates with Bachelor's Degrees must have a CASAC.

* Candidates with Master's Degrees must have one of the following:

1) CRC

2) CASAC

3) CASAC-T

4) LMSW (or MSW with limited permit)

5) LMHC (or Mental Health Counselor with limited permit)

6) LMFT (or Marriage and Family Therapist with limited permit)

* A minimum of 1 year of relevant work experience in the career counseling and drug addiction, social service or health care field required

* Professional experience in the following areas preferred: vocational planning, facilitating vocational groups, counseling, interpreting standardized tests and soliciting employment opportunities required

* Bilingual (English/Spanish) is preferred

* Knowledge of governmental, private and community programs and entitlements available to patients required

* Familiarity with various OASAS and TJC regulations and standards required

* Knowledge of computer software and ability to document all services in an Electronic Health Record required

* Experience recognizing signs of neglect or abuse of children, adults or elderly required.

The hours for the position are Tuesday 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM, Wednesday 9:30AM - 5:30PM, and Thursday 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM. Must be able to work at other DOSA locations and shifts based on operational need.

This is a 100% grant funded position.
