Position Summary
The Performance Scientist is a pivotal role in the Performance Science team, focusing on the Second Team and Academy players, while also providing support to the First Team when required. This position will report directly to the Head of Performance Science and collaborate closely with coaching, performance, and medical staff to support the club's performance science initiatives. The role's primary objective will be to optimize the physical development, monitoring, and performance of youth and development players while maintaining alignment with the club's overall performance strategy. This position will partner closely with the Head of Performance Science to implement and support all initiatives within the High-Performance Department

Primary Responsibilities:
1. Support Performance Science Initiatives for the Second Team and Academy:
o Collaborate with the Head of Performance Science to design and implement player performance programs for the Second Team and Academy players, focusing on physical preparation, load management, and injury prevention.
o Provide performance monitoring and analysis, including GPS tracking, wellness assessments, and physical tests.
o Support the implementation of individualized player development plans, aligning with the broader club philosophy for player growth and performance.
o Assist in the monitoring of players' physical loads and recovery, ensuring effective transition between training, competition, and recovery.

2. Assist First Team Performance Science:
o Support the First Team by assisting in player performance monitoring during certain training sessions and matchdays
o Analyze performance data to provide actionable insights that help optimize First Team player performance and recovery strategies.
o Collaborate with the First Team staff to ensure seamless integration of performance science strategies into the daily training environment.

3. Player Monitoring and Data Management:
o Collect, manage, and analyze performance data from a variety of sources (GPS, wearables, physical testing, etc.), ensuring that data is accurate, actionable, and integrated into the club's performance management systems.
o Provide performance insights and reports to coaches, performance staff, medical staff, and other relevant personnel to assist with decision-making on player development and recovery strategies.
o Assist in tracking and reporting on individual player progress, focusing on physical performance metrics and injury prevention.

4. Club-Wide Sport Science Alignment:
o Ensure alignment of sport science practices across all levels of the club, from the Academy to the First Team, working alongside the Head of Performance Science to implement consistent protocols and strategies.
o Collaborate with coaches, medical, and performance teams to ensure sport science principles are integrated into both training and matchday environments.

5. Collaboration and Support Across Departments:
o Work closely with the club's medical, performance, and coaching staff to provide integrated performance support for the development of young players and transition into the First Team.
o Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss player monitoring, injury prevention strategies, and training interventions.

6. Continuous Professional Development:
o Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and research in performance science and sport technology.
o Actively participate in internal and external education opportunities, such as conferences, seminars, and courses, to improve knowledge and practice in performance science.
o Contribute to the development of performance science staff and foster a collaborative culture of high performance within the team.

Qualifications
* Bachelor's Degree or higher in Sport Science, Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Strength & Conditioning, etc. (Master's Degree Preferred)
* Must have Certified Performance & Sport Scientist (CPSS) certification from NSCA.
* Minimum 3+ years of experience working in a similar role, in a professional soccer-specific environment.
* Must have significant and recent experience working with Catapult GPS
* Current CPR/First Aid/AED certification.
* Must have a valid US Driver's license, and passport.
* Must pass pre-employment screens.

Additional Qualities & Skills Desired for Success
* Ability to Utilize Microsoft Suite of Products.
* Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certification from NSCA
* Experience and high level of proficiency using different performance science technologies, aside from GPS, including:
- Force Plates (Hawkins Dynamic preferred)
- Velocity-Based Training devices (Perch strongly preferred)
- Isometric Strength Testing & Training (KangaTech preferred)
- Athlete Management Systems (Kitman Labs strongly preferred)
* Deep interest in sports, especially soccer, as well as Long-Term Athlete Development.
* Experience presenting, especially to key stakeholders.
* Strong work ethic and attention to detail.
* Strong verbal and written communication skills.
* Works well within in a collaborative, team-driven, and goal-based environment.
* Works well under pressure while maintaining a positive attitude.
* Must be a team player, reliable, and dependable with a can-do attitude.
* Must maintain complete confidentiality of privileged, and/or sensitive information.
* Must, always, display the character and values of the Tepper Sports & Entertainment brand.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements
This position operates in a professional office environment and outside in a stadium facility. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, etc.
* Must be able to work in non-traditional settings, and work non-traditional hours including nights, weekends, and holidays, for certain team training sessions and matches.
* Must be able to lift and carry up to 30 lbs.
* Ability to remain sitting for up to 6 hours at a desk and computer.
* Ability to remain standing/walking for up to 6 hours.
* Ability to work both indoors and outdoors, and endure weather conditions, including rain, wind, high and low temperatures, etc.
