Admissions Coordinator

The University of Minnesota Law School seeks a talented individual to support the Admissions Office with a broad range of high-level administrative and logistical tasks. This position provides a unique opportunity for the right candidate to be part of a high-energy Admissions Team while being the primary point of contact and communication for the Admissions Office, including communication with prospective and current students, as well as other units within the Law School.

Appointment
This is a full-time, 40 hours/week, nonexempt, Civil Service position. The position is mainly onsite, with some flexibility. The salary range is $21.00-$27.00/hour ($43,680-$56,160 annually) depending on qualifications and experience.

Responsibilities
Admissions Process Assistance (50%)

  • Review applications for admission and make recommendations to the Admissions Committee on viability for admission into Law School.
  • Counsel prospective students and provide information about the Law School and University resources.
  • Manage high-volume office email inbox and respond to prospective student questions in a timely manner.
  • Utilize the admissions database (UNITE) to input prospective student data and send event emails.
  • Process requests for viewbooks and application fee waivers.
  • Prepare and mail admission packets.
  • Record and track admitted student deposit payments.
  • Maintain and process I-20 documentation for international students in collaboration with the International Scholar and Student Services (ISSS) office.

Recruitment Logistics (25%)

  • Assist the Assistant Dean to successfully execute the recruiting plan on an annual basis.
  • Maintain and update departmental website and communications for recruiting events to ensure prospective students' information before and after events.
  • Manage logistics for off-campus recruiting events, including registration, shipping materials, prospect tracking and follow-up, travel arrangements, calendar details for recruiters, etc
  • Provide coordination and logistical support for events (on-campus and virtual), including room reservations, Zoom links, RSVP lists, nametags, food and beverages, etc.
  • Schedule private visits for prospective students and communicate details to all parties.

Office Management & Customer Service (25%)

  • Serve as the first point of contact (email, phone, in-person). Document all inquiries, actions taken, and next steps.
  • Provide outstanding customer service during all interactions with prospective students, external stakeholders, and Law School visitors.
  • Display a consistent level of high energy and enthusiasm for the Law School, current and prospective students, and the admission process.
  • Maintain knowledge of the Law School and current activities to provide the most accurate information to prospective students.
  • Maintain office spaces, supplies, recruitment materials, and electronic calendars for the Admissions team.
  • Maintain and update shared Google docs, forms, and sheets for projects in the department.
  • Work with vendors to contract various services for on-campus events.
  • Process invoice payments and reimbursements.
  • Supervise up to three student workers and assign tasks.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree, or a combination of education and relevant work experience to equal at least four years.
  • Experience working in higher education admissions or student services, preferably with graduate or professional students.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and Google applications; ability to quickly learn new technology and systems.
  • Proven ability to provide outstanding customer service in a high-traffic, public-facing position.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Proven ability to take initiative to solve problems independently and proactively.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Three plus years working in law school admissions.
  • Proficiency with UNITE database.
  • Event planning experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work proactively and anticipate needs.
  • Experience with social media marketing and communications.

About the Department

The Admissions Office provides top-notch customer service to about 3,300 applicants to the J.D. program each year. In addition to processing applications, Admissions meets and counsels prospective students at 50+ off-campus recruiting fairs around the country annually and hosts approximately 25 events each year, which are a mix of on-campus and virtual. Pay Range: $21.00 - $27.00/hour: ($43,680-$56,160 annually depending on education/qualifications/experience
